ARC Raiders is proving to be a far more complex game than most fans of extraction shooters have thought of, and the Expeditions feature is proof of this. In Every extraction shooter with a server wipe system, players will lose their progress, but in ARC Raiders, this happens differently. Players have the option to send their Raider on an Expedition, participating in a voluntary wipe to earn more rewards in the next Cycle.
This sort of 'Legacy System' can be used to keep most of the progress players have earned, and in this guide, readers will learn how to unlock it, the items required to send their Raider on an Expedition, and the reward system that will carry on through their next character.
How Does The Expedition Project Work in ARC Raiders?
Expeditions are a way to preserve progress for players throughout the ARC Raiders Voluntary Wipe, which is established to happen regularly from launch and going forward. Inside the Character Menu, there's a tab called 'Projects' which, upon being accessed, reveals a certain label known as 'Expeditions.'
Inside this menu, players who have reached level 20 will be able to begin the Expeditions project, which consists of the construction of a Caravan to go beyond the Rust Belt (the overall playable area around Speranza). This is a one-way trip, which means Raiders who set out on an Expedition will never return (AKA, the character will be forfeit).
But this, at the same time, will activate a Legacy System that will allow players to preserve a great deal of the progress when they create a new Raider after the wipe, earning rewards and buffs in the process. Here's a list of the things that are lost in the wipe and things that are kept with the players embark on an Expedition:

ARC Raiders Wipe Cycle & Expedition Rewards Explained
Wipe Cycles in ARC Raiders happen every 60 days, with the next Wipe set for December 14, 2025. Those players who manage to finish the Expeditions Project up to the last week prior to the wipe will have an 8-Day Window to send their Raider on an Expedition, keeping part of their progress.
Players will observe that a small prompt says: 'The Expedition Departure Window is now Closed' if they are not able to set on an expedition, or a prompt saying 'The Expedition Departure Window is now Open' when it's time to set on an Expedition.
Additionally, players who manage to finish the Expedition Project and activate it on time will receive certain rewards and buffs:
- Increased Scrappy material gains
- Increased XP Gain
- Increased weapon repairs
- Additional Stash Space (stacks each expedition)
- Bonus Skill Points based on the value of the loot present in the Stash Before Departure.
- Permanent Account Unlocks per completed Expedition
- Special Cosmetics Unlocked per completed Expedition
Some of these rewards, like the buffs for XP and Scrappy, will become the best way to keep progress on future Wipes, and can stack to get great benefits each time players create a new Raider. Successive completions will increase the magnitude of the buffs up to a global cap.
