Arcane Season 2 will be a high-stakes finale for the League of Legends TV adaptation. Following the announcement that the upcoming second season will be the conclusion of Vi and Jinx's story, no characters are safe when the Netflix series returns in November.
Arcane's first season introduced viewers to notable League of Legends champions, including Vi, Jinx, Caitlyn, Viktor, and Jayce, and provided an insightful and gripping backstory to their characters. Told over several years, Arcane set up a pivotal conflict between the societies of Piltover and Zaun, which was also reflected in the sibling relationship between Vi and Jinx, who find themselves on opposing sides. Arcane has never shied away from killing off characters when the story calls for it, and that means safety is not guaranteed for any of the beloved ensemble headed into Season 2.
The 10 Most Memorable Moments in Arcane, Season One
Arcane season one is packed with great moments, with the following scenes standing out as the best.
Not All the Piltover Council Members Can Survive
The major governing bodies on each side of Arcane's war include the wealthy Piltover council, which includes members like Jayce Talis, Mel Medarda, and Cassandra Kiramman, and Silco, who leads the underworld community in Zaun. In the final episode of Arcane's first season, Jinx initiates war with Piltover by firing a rocket directly at the council's chambers, although it's not known who survives.
Arcane Season 2 will have to reveal what happened to Piltover's ruling council members, but for Jinx's actions in the finale to truly have weight, not all the council members can survive. While there are many theories surrounding how the council members could escape Jinx's rocket, if any of them have to die, the one that makes the most sense would be Cassandra Kiramman.
Cassandra had a supporting role in Season 1 but was established as a level-headed counselor and a somewhat uptight mother to Caitlyn Kiramman. She was also a benefactor of Jayce Talis, and helped to support him during his early years of studying, as well as with his endeavors at Hextech. Cassandra is also shown to be very protective of her daughter, disapproving of Caitlyn's decision to become an enforcer and her dedication to investigating the undercity. In the finale, Cassandra is one of the counselors who supports Jayce's suggestion to grant Zaun its independence, but the outcome of that vote will no doubt change after Jinx's attack.
While Cassandra may come across as strict and as something of a selfish politician throughout her time in Arcane Season 1, she cares deeply about her family and their welfare. Her loss would be tragic, but it could also serve as a big motivator for Caitlyn in Season 2.
Caitlyn’s Quest for Revenge
Should Cassandra Kiramman die from Jinx's attack on Piltover, this would provide Caitlyn with the motivation she needs to go all-in on her mission. The trailer for Season 2 of Arcane has revealed that Caitlyn is dedicated to capturing Jinx, as she is pictured laying out a war plan with one of her objectives being to "locate Jinx". While this seems a logical objective for the enforcers in Piltover, Caitlyn's motivation seems to be more personal, and at one point in the teaser she can be heard saying "I want to tear that laugh from her throat forever."
In Season 1, Caitlyn was more lenient towards Jinx due to the fact she was Vi's sister, and she trusted in Vi that she would be able to turn Jinx away from Silco. But after Caitlyn is captured by Jinx in the Season 1 finale is used as a pawn in her plans against Vi, she no doubt sees Jinx as an enemy past redemption. This would only be enhanced by her mother's death at Jinx's hands and would make her mission more of a personal quest for revenge.
The death of Cassandra would no doubt push Caitlyn down a dark path, which is possibly exactly what her character needs to experience at this point in the story. Up until this point, Caitlyn has been mostly sheltered from the harsh realities of life, largely thanks to the overprotective nature of her mother. But it's clear that Caitlyn is not satisfied with the life of Piltover's elite, so she finds herself drawn to Vi, who has experienced a tougher and more grounded upbringing in the undercity, which is a reality Caitlyn has been shielded from.
If Cassandra were to die in Season 2 of Arcane it would be a harsh dose of reality for Caitlyn and probably far more than she was looking to experience when she set out to solve the mysteries of the undercity. Caitlyn would likely also harbor a lot of guilt over Cassandra's death, as she's spent most of her life at odds with her mother and would no doubt regret that. Together all of this could form an interesting character arc for Caitlyn in Season 2 of Arcane as she would be forced to choose whether to cross her moral boundaries for vengeance.
Arcane Season 2 will be released weekly on Netflix on November 9, November 16, and November 23.
