While FromSoftware's upcoming Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon won't be a Soulslike game, it should still have the studio's established brand of high level difficulty that fans have come to expect. With the incredible success FromSoftware has enjoyed from the Dark Souls games and Elden Ring, one would think it would stick with the popular genre it created, but Armored Core 6 is going to be something very different from the studio's more recent titles.

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon was announced at The Game Awards 2022 with an impressive cinematic trailer that established the game's themes and setting. Details on what exactly Armored Core 6 is bringing to the table have been hard to come by since the game's initial announcement, but now producer Yasunori Ogura has revealed some more information on the upcoming mech action game.

Speaking at the Taipei Game Show, Ogura promised that Armored Core 6 will have a "stiff challenge," keeping it in line with FromSoftware's other games. Whereas games like Dark Souls and Elden Ring lets players level up to make things a bit easier, Armored Core 6 is more about customizing mechs for players to get a leg up over their enemies.

Ogura also touched on Hidetaka Miyazaki's involvement with Armored Core 6. Miyazaki has served as director on multiple FromSoftware games, including Elden Ring, and so some may have wanted to see him take full control of Armored Core 6 as well. While Miyazaki is not directing Armored Core 6, according to Ogura, he still has played a role in the game's map design, combat, and "other core elements." Miyazaki served as the "Initial Game Director" for Armored Core 6 before the game was handed to Masaru Yamamura.

Armored Core 6's release date is planned for later this year, so fans should be able to expect a lot more information about the game to come to light in the months ahead. In the meantime, some FromSoftware fans may be wondering exactly what Miyazaki is working on since Armored Core 6 development is being led by Yamamura. Miyazaki's next project is a mystery at this point, though he hinted that Elden Ring DLC could be on the way during his Game of the Year acceptance speech at The Game Awards.

Whatever Miyazaki is working on next, FromSoftware fans can at least look forward to Armored Core 6. And since Armored Core 6 has a completely original story, fans don't even have to worry about playing the other games in the franchise before jumping into the new release later this year.

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon is in development for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
