Even more evidence pointing to the existence of an Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag remake has surfaced online, this time from an unexpected source in the form of a collectibles company livestream. In light of this and several other recent developments, a near-future announcement of the Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag remake appears plausible.

A modernized reimagining of the widely beloved fourth numbered entry in Ubisoft's hit franchise has reportedly been in the works since the early 2020s. Rumors of an Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remake have circulated for some time, with the first credible report emerging in June 2023 via Kotaku. In October of the following year, Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson identified the project under the codename “Obsidian.”

Assassin's Creed Fans Think Ubisoft Just Teased the Rumored Black Flag Remake

Some Ubisoft fans believe the studio has just teased the long-rumored remake of 2013's Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag.

Since then, circumstantial evidence pointing to an AC4: Black Flag remake has continued to mount, most recently through an unusual product showcase by PureArts, a Canadian collectible manufacturer and frequent Ubisoft collaborator. During a livestream unveiling the company’s new Assassin’s Creed statues, one host noted the absence of Black Flag protagonist Edward Kenway, adding cryptically: "you should be aware that there is something going on with Edward."

New PureArts Edward Statue Will Seemingly Be Based on the Black Flag Remake

The other host then interrupted with a question: “Has that been announced?”—to which the first replied, "I think so." In reality, of course, "that" hasn't been announced yet. From that point onward, the hosts offered few additional details. They did confirm, however, that the reason Edward’s statue was absent from the lineup is tied to the undisclosed development, which will be revealed at a later date. "There’s going to be something going on with Edward, and our PVC 1/8 scale statue will reflect that accordingly," one of the hosts concluded. For context, PureArts is a long-time Ubisoft partner that has produced Assassin’s Creed statues for every mainline series entry—and some spin-offs—even prior to this newly revealed product lineup.

Black Flag Remake May Launch in 2026

In late 2024, Insider Gaming reported that the Black Flag remake was originally targeting a 2025 launch, but ended up being internally delayed. The postponement was allegedly linked to AC Shadows shifting from a late 2024 release to early 2025. If this delay stemmed from scheduling decisions rather than development setbacks, the Black Flag remake may still be on track to launch within a comparable window.

There’s going to be something going on with Edward, and our PVC 1/8 scale statue will reflect that accordingly.

For reference, the Japan-set Assassin's Creed Shadows was initially slated for November 15 but was ultimately delayed twice, eventually settling on a March 20 debut. If that timeline shift was enough to push Black Flag out of 2025, it suggests the remake was targeting a late 2025 release and could now plausibly launch in the first half of 2026.
