Sightings of an "unannounced Assassin's Creed project" on LinkedIn are adding more fuel to the Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag remake rumors. The Assassin's Creed 4 remake was reported to be in development last year; however, it was claimed that the game was still in the early stages. These reports also asserted that Ubisoft Singapore, the team behind the upcoming Skull and Bones, is taking part in development.
After numerous delays, it finally appears Ubisoft is sticking to its release date for Skull and Bones of February 16. As both Skull and Bones and Assassin's Creed 4 involve naval combat, Ubisoft Singapore seems like a good match for a Black Flag remake. That said, the aforementioned delays and somewhat underwhelming showings of Skull and Bones over the years have been a bit worrisome for fans of the fan-favorite Assassin's Creed game. Still, the much-discussed remake has yet to be confirmed by Ubisoft, so it remains a rumor. A recently spotted LinkedIn bio update, however, perhaps gives a bit more credence to the reports.
Isaac Tan, Lead Cinematic Designer for Ubisoft Singapore, now lists an "unannounced Assassin's Creed project" on his profile. The update to Tan's profile, as first pointed out by Assassin's Creed News on social media, states that he has been working on the project since 2023, which lines up with reports concerning the rumored Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag remake. Tan has previously acted as Lead Cinematic Designer for Skull and Bones and Assassin's Creed Mirage.
As roughly translated by Google, the post restates that Tan has been working on the project since 2023 and speculates this could refer to the Black Flag remake. Again, rumors are still unsubstantiated at the moment, but the pieces are beginning to fit together if the reports are, in fact, true. Ubisoft taking talent from Skull and Bones and Assassin's Creed Mirage makes a ton of sense. Skull and Bones share some similarities to Black Flag, and Mirage is more or less a return to the stealth combat focus that existed before the action RPG-oriented Assassin's Creed games like Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla.
Fans of the franchise generally have a soft spot for Black Flag, as it is widely considered to be one of the best Assassin's Creed games. Black Flag essentially took the genre-defining combat mechanics from previous entries and set it in an open-world pirate game.
As Skull and Bones initially began as a Black Flag expansion, some thought the remake could wind up being a way out for a game with such troubled development. That doesn't appear to be the case, however, as Ubisoft is committed to releasing Skull and Bones in February.
