Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag fans believe Ubisoft may have just teased the long-rumored remake in a new social media post. Ubisoft has yet to confirm or deny the rumors that the studio is currently working on a remake of 2013's Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, but a new post on the studio's UK Twitter account is being interpreted by fans as the first potential teaser for an upcoming announcement.
Rumors of a potential Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag remake first surfaced in June 2023. According to a report from Kotaku, sources who wished to remain anonymous revealed that Ubisoft was in the early stages of developing a remake of the iconic title. The report claimed that the remake was still a couple of years out, with Ubisoft Singapore, which is the lead developer for Ubisoft's other pirate-themed title Skull & Bones, reportedly involved to some degree. Almost exactly two years on, and Ubisoft has yet to make any official statement or reveal surrounding the rumored remake. If the reports are true, though, the wait may soon be coming to an end.
Assassin's Creed's Multiplayer Ambitions Shouldn't Leave Far Cry Behind
While Ubisoft may be trying to deliver a massive Assassin's Creed multiplayer game, it should really consider going after the Far Cry franchise.
Ubisoft May Have Just Teased the Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag Remake
A follow-up report from Insider Gaming then claimed in 2024 that the Black Flag remake had been internally delayed beyond its planned 2025 release window. It's unknown how far the remake was pushed back, but fans are beginning to wonder if Ubisoft has just posted the very first teaser for the title. As spotted by The Gamer, a new post on the official Assassin's Creed UK Twitter account joined in on a popular meme by joking about rexperiencing Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag after losing your memory. With an abundance of critically acclaimed Assassin's Creed titles to choose from, many believe there's a clear cut reason as to why the studio went with Black Flag.
Twitter user AC: Landmarks called Ubisoft a "tease," while Sultan said, "Why Black Flag out of all the games, AC admin? Are you trying to tell us something?" Many others chimed in too, such as user Nordic, who jokingly responded by saying, "I would love to experience this game for the first time again, but better." Of course, Black Flag is often considred one of the best Assassin's Creed games ever, so there's a strong chance that this is less of a tease and more of a shout out to one of the greatest entries in the franchise.
There's also the slim possibility that the remake doesn't even exist. But, given the numerous reports from multiple reliable sources, that seems unlikely. The most recent piece of information surrounding the possible remake came earlier this year, when a new report revealed some important details about Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag's rumored remake. It has now been claimed that the title is being developed using Ubisoft's Anvil Engine and will feature new combat and "ecosystems around wildlife." The rumor suggests that the remake could be quite an ambitious one, and given the fact that it has supposedly been in development for two years now, Assassin's Creed fans could be in for a treat.
