When players first begin their Assassin's Creed Shadows playthrough, they'll need to choose from a number of different options that will determine how their experience plays out. Most of these are related to the game's difficulty settings and core gameplay mechanics, but there's one particular option that focuses on player immersion.
Every Assassin's Creed Game, Ranked
From the original to now, every Assassin's Creed game has its highs and lows, but some titles are way better than others.
The aptly named Immersive Mode sets the voiceover language to Japanese and blends it with Portuguese dialog in an attempt to provide a more immersive experience. However, as the in-game description uses the word "locks", some Assassin's Creed Shadows players may be apprehensive about enabling the option.
Should You Play Assassin's Creed Shadows in Japanese or English?
The Japanese voice acting in Assassin's Creed Shadows is excellent when it comes to Naoe and Yasuke. Pretty much all of the NPCs are well-voiced too, so those who can understand Japanese or anyone who doesn't mind reading subtitles while they play should definitely consider playing the game in Japanese. That's not to say that the voice acting in the English dub isn't good as well, although there are occasionally NPCs whose attempts at a Japanese accent don't sound quite right.
Despite the wording in the options menu at the beginning of the game suggesting otherwise, it's possible to change the language of the voice acting in Assassin's Creed Shadows mid-way through a playthrough. Players will also be able to enable and disable Immersive Mode whenever they please.
Assassin's Creed Shadows Main Cast List
When it comes to the English dub, Yasuke is voiced by Tongayi Chirisa, a Zimbabwean actor who is best known for his performances as Man Friday in NBC's Crusoe series, while the voice actor for Naoe is Masumi Tsunoda. The Japanese voice actor for Naoe is Miyuri Shimabukuro, with Yuichi Jose taking on the role of Yasuke. All four of them do a fantastic job of bringing their respective characters to life.

As for the rest of the Japanese cast, there are plenty of big names appearing in Assassin's Creed Shadows, with some of the most notable ones being Katsuyuki Konishi, Saori Hayami, and Akio Otsuka. The latter has appeared in countless video games over the years including multiple Metal Gear, Yakuza, and Final Fantasy games. Hayami and Konishi have also appeared in their fair share of video games, although are arguably better known for their many great anime performances.
