As they progress through the main story of Assassin's Creed Shadows, players will come to learn that Ukita Naoie is one of the twelve Shinbakufu who killed Naoe's father. The Spring and Fall mission culminates in an epic showdown with him at the top of Himeji Castle, after which, players will be asked to decide the ruthless Daimyo's fate.

Given the time they've spent with his young son and his apparent remorse for putting Hideie in danger, some Assassin's Creed Shadows players may be tempted to spare Ukita Naoie now that he's no longer a threat. Others may want him to taste justice just like the rest of the Shimbakufu, bringing Naoe one step closer to the vengeance she craves.

Should You Kill or Spare Ukita Naoie in Assassin's Creed Shadows?

assassins-creed-shadows-kill-or-spare-ukita-naoie

As is the case with most of the other big decisions in Assassin's Creed Shadows, it makes no real difference whether players decide to kill or spare Ukita Naoie, as his fate will be the same either way. That said, choosing to spare Ukita Naoie leads to some additional dialogue and can potentially provide some closure to his son, more so if players gave Ukita Naoie a few moments to read Hideie's poem before the aforementioned fight.

What Happens if You Kill Ukita Naoie?

If players choose to kill Ukita Naoie, he'll accept his fate instantly and Naoe will slit his throat. Players will then need to deliver his final words to his son Hideie, after which, the mission will come to an end. Save for the additional dialogue when players choose the spare option, there are no major differences in the way that things play out and no lasting consequences for their decision should players opt to kill Ukita Naoie right away.

What Happens if You Spare Ukita Naoie?

Even if players choose to spare Ukita Naoie, he'll ask Naoe to kill him anyway in the hopes that his death will guarantee the safety of his son. Before Naoe fulfills his request, though, he asks her to deliver his final words to his son, which, if players gave him a moment to read it earlier, will be taken from Hideie's poem. The player will then have the option to deliver Ukita Naoie's chosen final words or be a jerk and choose something else entirely. As with the previous choice, there are no lasting consequences either way.
