Assassin's Creed Mirage is getting surprise story DLC, which will be entirely free, Ubisoft has announced. The content drop will expand Assassin's Creed Mirage in several ways, including the addition of a new location to explore.
Originally released in October 2023, Mirage debuted as one of the lowest-rated mainline entries in the Assassin's Creed franchise. Regardless, longtime fans praised its more condensed map and less bloated experience compared to the post-Syndicate games, which shifted from an action-adventure formula to full-fledged action RPGs. Mirage still ended up skipping story DLC, becoming the first mainline installment to do so since the 2007 original.

Assassin's Creed Mirage Announces Free Story DLC With Sleek Concept Art
Nearly two years following its original release, the game is now confirmed to be receiving story DLC after all, with Ubisoft announcing as much on August 23. While the official name of the expansion has yet to be disclosed, the developer revealed that the upcoming content drop will include a new story chapter and missions set in 9th-century al-Ula, an ancient Arabian oasis city. The announcement was accompanied by a sleek-looking piece of concept art depicting Assassin's Creed Mirage protagonist Basim approaching al-Ula from the east, as the sun sets in the west.

Saudi Savvy Games Reportedly Financed New Assassin's Creed Mirage DLC
The upcoming DLC will also introduce "gameplay improvements" to the base game, Ubisoft said. All of these additions will launch free of charge later in 2025. Though it's unusual for big-budget games to offer substantial content drops for free, one early 2025 report possibly explains why this is the case here. As reported by French outlet Les Echos in January, Savvy Games Group—a subsidiary of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund—previously struck a deal with Ubisoft for additional Assassin's Creed Mirage story content. The exact nature of the agreement wasn't disclosed, with Ubisoft declining to comment at the time.
Another indication that the upcoming Assassin's Creed Mirage DLC may be bankrolled by PIF concerns its setting, as al-Ula is located in Medina (Madinah), a province of modern Saudi Arabia. If the project is indeed financed by Savvy Games, its choice of setting would align with its backers.
Assassin's Creed Mirage Has Yet to Confirm DLC Platforms
Looking at broader industry trends, it is not uncommon for a cross-gen game to receive DLC that excludes some of its platforms, namely the older console generation. Recent examples include Cyberpunk 2077's Phantom Liberty expansion and the Burning Shores DLC for Horizon Forbidden West, as well as Final Fantasy 7 Remake's Intermission content. Although Mirage is the last mainline Assassin's Creed game available on the PS4 and Xbox One, Ubisoft has so far given no indication that the newly announced DLC will follow this approach. As things currently stand, the free al-Ula expansion may even reach the iOS port of Assassin's Creed Mirage.
