Ubisoft has revealed that the ghosts of Assassin's Creed Mirage's main story targets appear in the game's Animus loading screen. Assassin's Creed Mirage was released in October and appeased fans of the longstanding franchise who preferred the series' classic stealth-focused gameplay on a much smaller scale than the more recent RPG-style Assassin's Creed games. Mirage takes Assassin's Creed Valhalla's Basim Ibn Ishaq and tells his story of getting involved with the Hidden Ones in 9th century Baghdad.

Like most Assassin's Creed games, the main narrative of Assassin's Creed Mirage tasks players with hunting a number of high-profile members of the Order of the Ancients. Some of these targets serve as small stepping stones to reach more important members who rule over the various districts of Mirage's Baghdad. Many of these assassinations bring Basim and his felled target into the Animus for a brief moment as they exchange final words. The Animus is also the site where Assassin's Creed games gives players full control of the character while the game loads.

Out of the blue, Assassin's Creed took to Twitter to let fans know that the targets players assassinate during the main story show up in Mirage's Animus loading screen as ghosts. The tweet included a short side-by-side clip of early-game Basim in the Animus next to a later-game counterpart. Sure enough, on the right screen where the player has committed multiple story assassinations, faint, black shadowy figures can be seen a couple yards away from Basim; they're incredibly difficult to spot. The tweet added that these ghosts of Basim's assassination targets can also be spotted in Mirage's story cutscenes that take place in the Animus.

Basim's Assassinated Targets Appear In Mirage's Animus Loading Screen

While they're already tough to spot, Mirage players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S must have had an even tougher time seeing these Animus ghosts due to the consoles' much quicker loading times. PS4 and Xbox One users had more time to run around during the loading screen, and thus likely noticed the figures more often throughout their Assassin's Creed Mirage playthroughs. Having the target ghosts be barely visible was a smart move by Ubisoft, as they might have been too distracting during the game's important late-game Animus cutscenes.

It'll be interesting to see if this small detail will be carried over into the upcoming Assassin's Creed Red and Assassin's Creed Hexe games. Speaking of Red, fans of the franchise might expect to learn more about the next full-blown RPG-style entry at the confirmed Ubisoft Forward that's set to happen on June 10.
