Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin's Creed Shadows has passed the five-million player milestone, just four months after its initial release. Hitting this number is an impressive achievement for Assassin's Creed Shadows, which takes players back in time to experience feudal Japan for the first time in the series' history.
After a difficult period including the high-profile flop of Star Wars Outlaws, Assassin's Creed Shadows was a much-needed win for Ubisoft. Despite the game facing its share of controversies pre-release, Assassin's Creed Shadows instantly hit one million players on day one, and the game's community has only grown since. The launch was the second-biggest in the franchise's history, only falling behind 2020's Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
Ubisoft CEO Comments on How Much Assassin’s Creed Shadows Cost to Make
Ubisoft's CEO reveals Assassin's Creed Shadows big budget numbers, but the game's impressive sales figures may justify the hefty costs.
In a post on X, Ubisoft confirmed that Assassin's Creed Shadows has hit the five-million player milestone, an impressive feat for the March 2025 release. It should be noted that this doesn't indicate actual sales figures, given its presence on Ubisoft+ Premium. However, with strong sales reported in Ubisoft's recent financial results, it's fair to say Assassin's Creed Shadows' performance is a solid result for the company at an important moment.
Assassin's Creed Shadows Has Passed Five Million Players
The post also gave some more interesting player stats about Assassin's Creed Shadows. Across the five million assassins, there have been two billion stealth kills and over one billion kilometers traveled. Perhaps most importantly of all, 38 million animals have been petted by players throughout their Assassin's Creed Shadows playthroughs.
The strong performance of Assassin's Creed Shadows has been enhanced by Ubisoft's support for the game. Last month, a new Assassin's Creed Shadows update added new story content to the game as well as a new ally, while the game's first expansion, Claws of Awaji, is set for release later this year. Ubisoft's post announcing the recent player milestone confirmed that there will be "updates coming this week," so fans have something immediate to look forward to, too.
