  • Set in feudal Japan, the game features dual gameplay with samurai Yasuke and kunoichi Naoe.
  • Fans have discussed the reused animation, with most approving its inclusion, while others mention the need for technical recreation.

Some Assassin’s Creed fans have recently discovered that the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows could potentially be using a stealth takedown animation from 2012’s Assassin’s Creed 3. AC Shadows will be out in November and this discovery is the latest detail that fans have uncovered about the next game in the franchise.

Set in feudal Japan during the late Sengoku period, Assassin’s Creed Shadows will have two protagonists, the samurai Yasuke and the kunoichi Naoe. With this change, the game promises dual gameplay, in which players will be able to pick between a stealthy ninja or a powerful swordmaster. Both characters will have access to assassinations, though, and gamers have uncovered something pretty interesting about one of Naoe’s techniques.

Assassin's Creed Shadows Official Art Book Announced [EXCLUSIVE]

Dark Horse Books and franchise publisher Ubisoft reveal a brand new 256-page art book for the upcoming release of Assassin's Creed Shadows.

A hardcore Assassin’s Creed fan called BrunoHM has recently spotted that Ubisoft seems to be adding an unused AC3 animation to Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The gamer used a short clip to compare one of Connor’s scrapped assassination animations with one of Naoe’s executions shown in a recently released gameplay scene. In both scenes, the assassin is running from behind the target, then jumps, strikes the enemy with their knee, and assassinates them quickly while rolling forward. Connor’s scene comes from pre-release footage of an AC3 demo released during PAX East in 2012 and is quite similar to the move used by the AC Shadows ninja Naoe. The animation was never used in Assassin’s Creed 3, though, being scrapped for unknown reasons.

New Takedown Animation From Assassin's Creed Shadows Seems To Be Revived From AC3

In the post’s comments, many gamers were surprised to see a scrapped animation from a 12-year-old game being used in AC Shadows. Assassin’s Creed Shadows will have several new mechanics, which led gamers to discuss why Ubisoft would reuse animations from previous games. The overall consensus among the fanbase was that the takedown animation looked great, and most people would not have issues with Ubisoft reusing it. However, others pointed out that due to technical details, it’s likely that Ubisoft would need to recreate the animation from scratch, even if it’s visually the same as it was in AC3.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows will probably be a hit when it’s finally released on November 12, especially considering the series' good track record in sales recently. Despite Shadows being at the center of some recent controversies about historical accuracy, most fans are excited about the upcoming open-world game, and AC Shadows even sold out its $280 edition in some places soon after it was available.
