Summary
- Assassin's Creed Shadows has been delayed to February 14, 2025.
- Pre-orders for the game will be refunded, and future pre-orders will get the first expansion free of charge.
- The delay puts the game in an especially competitive month for new game releases.
Ubisoft has officially delayed Assassin's Creed Shadows. The upcoming Assassin's Creed Shadows is finally delivering on a big request that franchise fans have had for years: a main series Assassin's Creed game set in Feudal Japan. Assassin's Creed fans marked their calendars for November 15, as that was the original release date announced for the huge new open world game.
Assassin's Creed Shadows was supposed to be featured at the 2024 Tokyo Game Show as part of a special presentation hosted by Ubisoft. The presentation, scheduled for September 26, was abruptly canceled by Ubisoft, with no reason beyond "various circumstances." The latest move by the company may offer more insight as to why it decided to pull Assassin's Creed Shadows from Tokyo Game Show at the last minute.
Rumor: Assassin's Creed Shadows Will Have Important Feature
A feature that many games find valuable in the current generation is rumored for the highly-anticipated Assassin's Creed Shadows.
As confirmed by Ubisoft, the Assassin's Creed Shadows release date has been pushed to February 14, 2025, meaning fans have to wait an extra three months to get their hands on the game. In its official statement, Ubisoft explained that this decision was made "in the best interest of the game." Basically, it seems Assassin's Creed Shadows is going to need more polish if it hopes to live up to both Ubisoft's expectations and the expectations of franchise fans. It was also confirmed that Assassin's Creed Shadows is now coming to Steam on day one, whereas before there were no announced plans for it to release on the platform.
Assassin's Creed Shadows Release Date Delayed
- Assassin's Creed Shadows is now releasing on February 14, 2025
Not only has Ubisoft decided to delay Assassin's Creed Shadows, but it has also announced that pre-orders for the game will be refunded. This isn't unprecedented, though it is rare for a company to refund pre-orders when delaying a game. Future Assassin's Creed Shadows pre-orders will be gifted the game's first expansion free of charge.
Assassin's Creed Shadows' release date delay means that February 2025 is suddenly looking pretty stacked. Other games releasing that month include Civilization 7, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Avowed, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, and Monster Hunter Wilds, among various other games. By comparison, November 2024 is a lot less busy, so the move to February could very well put Assassin's Creed Shadows at a disadvantage.
It will definitely be interesting to see how Assassin's Creed Shadows performs commercially. Ubisoft has had somewhat of a rough year, and the decision to delay AC Shadows to 2025 certainly doesn't help things. On the bright side, 2025 should be an especially busy year for Assassin's Creed fans. Beyond the fact that Assassin's Creed Shadows is now releasing in early 2025, the Assassin's Creed Jade mobile game is also expected to launch at some point next year.
