Despite a rough development with delays and controversies, Assassin's Creed Shadows has gone on to be a big hit for Ubisoft, thanks to strong reviews and positive word of mouth from players.
Ubisoft has been keen on keeping that momentum rolling through continued updates, free content, and eventually, a paid expansion. Since launch, Assassin's Creed Shadows has been adding free content through updates, giving players additional story beats to chase even after the credits of the main story have rolled. That trend is set to continue next week with another new update, though Ubisoft has also confirmed the next free story quest will also be coming.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Reveals Year 1 Post-Launch Roadmap
Ubisoft shares the year-one one roadmap for Assassin's Creed Shadows, promising a bunch of free updates, story content, and general improvements.
Assassin's Creed Shadows is set to get its next update on June 25, though the company has yet to provide much in the way of details for what will be included. However, Ubisoft has started to tease new content in the update, starting with the next free story mission. Featuring a collaboration with voice actor and Critical Role member Robbie Daymond, this latest update will add another free story mission to dive into.
Ubisoft Teases Assassin's Creed Shadows Collaboration with Critical Role
According to Daymond in a short video, the update sees the return of a character named Rufino, originally created for a promotional one-shot dressed in a Portuguese-style outfit. This update sees the character officially added to the game and, better yet, players will be able to add Rufino to Assassin's Creed Shadows' recruitable allies roster. It's not known how big Rufino's role will be, but as a recruitable character, many are expecting a bigger impact than some of the previously released post-launch missions.
Even with continued additions of post-launch content, players are eagerly awaiting more news on the upcoming expansion, Claws of Awaji. Not much has been detailed after its reveal earlier this year, but recent rumors seemingly indicate that the Claws of Awaji expansion for Assassin's Creed Shadows is set to launch sometime in September or October. The expansion is free for those who pre-ordered the game, as a sort of thank you from Ubisoft following the game's delays, but it will be on sale for everyone else as well.
