Assassin's Creed Shadows has released a huge new title update that adds a host of new features and preps the game for its big Claws of Awaji DLC drop next week. Hovering in the top five best-selling new games of 2025 since its release back in March, Assassin's Creed Shadows provides a feudal Japan setting many fans of the franchise have been dreaming about ever since the series began in 2007.

Assassin's Creed Shadows Players Left Frustrated Over One Upcoming Update Change

The first major story DLC for Assassin's Creed Shadows takes players off the mainland to explore an island off the coast of Japan inhabited by a new antagonistic faction called the Sanzoku Ippa. It's here that Claws of Awaji's roughly ten hours of story content will unfold as dual protagonists Naoe and Yasuke gain access to a host of new abilities, skills, and gear. The DLC is set for release early next week, and Ubisoft is busy prepping Assassin's Creed Shadows for the expansion to go live.

Assassin's Creed Shadows' Claws of Awaji Expansion is 'Spookier' Than Base Game

The Best War Games Advance reveals that Assassin's Creed Shadows' Claws of Awaji DLC will have a spookier vibe to it than the base game.

Part of this preparation involves a hefty new title update for Assassin's Creed Shadows. Title Update 1.1.1 increases Shadows' level cap from 80 to 100, providing a new goal for hardcore fans to aim for. A slew of upgrades has been added to the Assassin's Creed Shadows' player-built Hideout area as part of the new update as well. The max upgrade level of all buildings in the Hideout has been raised by two, which, in turn, has raised the overall max Hideout level by three. Upgrading the Nando to level two now allows players to pass time by meditating, and beefing up the Forge to level six now provides two new upgrade tiers for gear and weapons in Mythic and Artifact. Of course, the update also comes with a good number of improvements and bug fixes.

Perhaps the biggest piece of Assassin's Creed Shadows' Title Update 1.1.1 is the addition of a free quest named Go with the Bo. Originally meant to be part of Claws of Awaji, this free new mission is being given to all Assassin's Creed Shadows players, regardless of whether they purchase the DLC. Completing the mission will reward players with the new Bo staff weapon type for Naoe, which will provide a nice compliment to her arsenal of weapons that previously only consisted of her katana, tanto, and kusarigama.

Assassin's Creed Shadows' Claws of Awaji DLC is set for release on September 16, which is also the day the free Go with the Bo quest becomes available. With this DLC being so heavily focused on Naoe, one must wonder if Ubisoft has a Yasuke-led DLC planned for the near future, though nothing has been confirmed. In the meantime, players can enjoy all the new features that have just been added to the game as they await Claws of Awaji coming next week.
