Its 24-hour peak sits at 4,522 at the time of writing, which is the highest number of players since September 2023. Notably, it's also the fourth-highest-peak player count that the game has ever achieved on Steam, with its initial launch 11 years ago being the pinnacle. This recent number even beats the slight bump it enjoyed when Ubisoft surprisingly added Steam achievements to Assassin's Creed Unity in an update, a decade after its release.
The reasoning behind this increase seems pretty clear. Assassin's Creed Unity is currently available for $4.49 on Steam at 85% off its full price, matching its all-time lowest price on the platform. Between 2020 and 2024, it fell to $4.49 numerous times on Steam, and it tends to be during this time that it enjoys its highest player count peaks. The game is certainly no stranger to random player count spikes - just a year ago, Assassin's Creed Unity tripled its player count after interest was boosted thanks to the Paris Olympics, the city in which the game takes place. No doubt, it won't be the last time this happens.
Over a decade after Assassin's Creed Unity's launch, and the franchise is still a pillar of Ubisoft's success. The most recent game in the series, Assassin's Creed Shadows, was a much-needed success for the company, and it seems like Ubisoft only plans to lean further into its flagship franchise. A rumor earlier this year suggests that the plan is to release nine Assassin's Creed games over the next six years, which feels like a high-risk, high-reward strategy for Ubisoft. It remains to be seen if this will come to fruition.
