PlayStation recently announced that a new limited-edition Astro Bot Joyful DualSense Wireless controller will be released on October 30. Pre-orders for this adorable peripheral designed to look like the eponymous protagonist of Astro Bot go live on September 12, so fans of the 2024 Game of the Year winner will want to save the date if they don’t want to miss out.

You Will Have a Second Chance to Buy One of the Coolest PS5 Controllers

Astro Bot is a charming 3D platformer that took the world by storm with its release on September 6, 2024. In many ways a celebration of PlayStation’s 30th anniversary, this PS5 exclusive claimed Game of the Year at The Game Awards in 2024, winning over heavy-hitters like Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Metaphor: ReFantazio.

Astro Bot DualSense PS5 Controller Returns on October 30

Though cosmetics and references to other PS5 titles can be found in the platformer, gamers can soon bring a piece of Astro Bot with them into other PlayStation 5 games as well. Sony just officially revealed the limited-edition Astro Bot Joyful DualSense Wireless controller, a new peripheral sporting the protagonist's iconic white and blue color scheme and eyes, will launch on October 30. The dramaticized advertisement for the controller shows the face emoting, but players should be aware the real thing only features a singular expression.

Dedicated Astro Bot fans might recognize this controller, as a similar one was released alongside the game itself. However, this second controller has one major difference: while the original featured the wide-eyed expression of Astro Bot at rest, this new one sports his smiling eyes, bringing a heaping helping of joy to the already-adorable peripheral.

Most importantly, this controller presents a new chance to pick up a controller inspired by the popular game. The original Astro Bot controller sold out extremely fast and is no longer available for purchase. Pre-orders for the Joyful edition go live on September 12 at 10 AM local time, so gamers hoping to pick one of these Astro Bot controllers should be there as soon as they go live, as they will almost certainly sell out quickly. PlayStation hasn’t put a price on it yet, but the original Astro Bot controller was $80, so the Joyful version will probably be the same.

The Game Awards 2025 will take place in exactly 100 days from press time, meaning it won’t be long until players learn who will inherit the Game of the Year crown from Astro Bot. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Elden Ring: Nightreign, and Donkey Kong Bananza are fan favorites for Game of the Year 2025, promising a tight race for the highly coveted title this year.
