Summary

  • AMD is rumored to be developing Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs for gamers, but there is no official confirmation yet from AMD or ASUS.
  • The Ryzen 9000 series launched recently following delays due to a printing error in some CPUs.
  • AMD X3D CPUs, like the Ryzen 7 5800X3D and 7800X3D, are known for their 3D V-Cache technology to boost gaming performance.

Tech giant AMD may be working on the Ryzen 9000X3D lineup of gaming-focused processors, according to source code data from some new ASUS motherboard listings that have made the rounds on social media. However, neither AMD nor ASUS have publicly confirmed any details concerning the Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs.

The news came as AMD launched the Ryzen 9000 series of CPUs following some delays in manufacturing. According to AMD, errors in the printing process led to some units like the Ryzen 7 9700X being mislabeled as the "Ryzen 9 9700X" instead of the proper name. The mistake was documented on social media after the initial delay was confirmed, but AMD did not clarify if the printing mistake was the sole reason for the pushed-back release. However, the Ryzen 9000 series launched on August 8 and 15, with the Ryzen 5 9600X and Ryzen 7 9700X arriving on August 8, and the Ryzen 9 9900X and 9950X arriving a week later.

Though all rumors must be taken with a fine pinch of salt, more AMD Ryzen X3D CPUs could be on the horizon for buyers to consider. According to the German site ComputerBase (translated by Wccftech), the source code from an ASUS website dedicated to its X870 and X870E motherboard lineup listed AMD Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs as compatible processors that the motherboard's AM5 socket can utilize. Like the Ryzen 7 5800X3D and 7800X3D, the apparent Ryzen 9000X3D processors would incorporate AMD's patented 3D V-Cache technology to improve gaming performance. As for the motherboards, the ASUS X870E and X870 chipsets feature PCIe 5.0 and DDR5 support and also include compatibility with RyzenAI processors. Other chipsets like B850 and B840 were also identified in the ASUS motherboard website's source code, but no further details were given.

ASUS Website Claims AMD Ryzen 9000X3D Are In The Works

  • The website source code for ASUS listed some branding for AMD Ryzen 9000X3D processors.
  • The X870E and X870 motherboard chipsets may be compatible with the Ryzen 9000X3D CPU lineup.
  • AMD's X3D CPU lineup is known for 3D V-Cache technology that improves gaming performance.
  • No official word about the Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs has been confirmed by ASUS or AMD.

Although AMD has not publicly confirmed the existence of any CPUs past the recently launched Ryzen 9000 lineup, PC gamers may still have an opportunity to learn more about the future of AMD Ryzen CPUs. According to sources, AMD will host an event at Gamescom 2024 set to take place on August 23 on the show floor. The floor event will be held at Gamescom Hall 8 and will be broadcast on AMD's Twitch channel. However, no further details about AMD product releases were confirmed.

Between the launch of the Ryzen 9000 series and the success of X3D processors, AMD is doubling down on CPU production. It remains to be seen what, if anything, AMD may reveal during Gamescom.
