Casterfell Dam is a large structure located to the north of Atomfall's Casterfell Woods. As with most locations in this region, the dam is inhabited by unfriendly druids armed with bows and sharp melee weapons. There are also some areas that are protected by electrified fences pumping out voltage high enough to fry the player.
Atomfall's Factions Explained
In a The Best War Games interview, an Atomfall dev talks about some of the factions from the folk horror-inspired Druids to the Cold War vibes of Protocol.
In these fenced-off spots, there is some valuable loot being kept away by all the electricity. Thankfully, there is a way to turn off the power to these fences and allow Atomfall players to grab the stuff lying about.
Where To Find Casterfell Dam in Atomfall
Casterfell Dam is located at the coordinates 20.9 E, 90.9 N on the map in the Casterfell Woods region. Upon arriving here, the player may run into some druids. Stealthily sneak around them or take them all out to make exploration of this location easier.
There will be three electric fences in this area. They'll be easy to spot as they're not too far from the entrance. They will be pulsating with electricity making them impossible to enter without suffering damage and being inflicted with the Shocked status effect. To get in and out of these fenced areas without being electrocuted, the player needs to figure out a way to turn them off.
How To Deactivate The Electric Fences in Atomfall
There's a building close to the dam and the electric fences that houses the Control Room. Its exact location is at 20.4 E, 90.9 N on the map. Enter this building, and the player will see a lit-up console with a lever and a map above it. This lever controls the electricity that's flowing through the fences, and the three lights in the middle of the map represent the various fences.
Two of these lights will be green, and the remaining one will be red. The green lights show which fences are currently electrified, and the red light is the one fence that is powered down. Each time the lever is pulled, the lights will change, which means that a different fence will be deactivated while another will be charged up.
By going around to the other side of this building, the player can stumble across the body of a man named Jenks. This corpse will either start or be part of the Datlow Hall questline.
There's different loot to be found within each of these fenced-in areas. Here's what can be found.
First Fence
This will be the fence closest to the Control Room building. This one is already turned off when the player arrives, and doesn't have any loot to offer. It's more or less just there to show how these fences are supposed to look when they're not electrified.
Second Fence
This is the fence in the middle of the other two fences. If the player has acquired a Metal Detector, the prompt to equip it will go off when approaching this fence. After turning off the power to this fence, it's safe to enter and pull out the Metal Detector. It'll signal the player toward a buried cache, which will contain the Crafting Recipe for the Explosive Lure, among other items.
Third Fence
This is the fence that is the furthest away from the Control Room building. This area holds the best prize of all, as next to a backpack filled with crafting materials and potatoes will be an Atomic Battery. This is a key item used to power up areas within The Interchange, so players should definitely hold onto it.
