There's a lot of hidden loot hiding around Atomfall. While much of it can be pilfered from crates or the bodies of outlaws, there are hidden caches and lunchboxes that are buried under the ground, too. Of course, the only way the player can ever find these treasures is with the help of a Metal Detector.

The developers behind the upcoming action survival title Atomfall reveal how long the game will take to beat, though the numbers may vary.

The Metal Detector can be picked up relatively early in Atomfall, and there are two ways for players to get their hands on one. For those unsure, here's a detailed rundown on how to find and use the Metal Detector in Atomfall.

Where To Get The Metal Detector In Atomfall

Early in the game, players will run into a guitar-playing NPC named Nat Buckshaw. He'll tell them about an NPC trader named Molly Jowett, who offers intel in addition to her wares. Her location will be placed on the map, and after she's found, the Metal Detector will be one of the items she can offer up for trade. If the player has enough good loot to barter for the Metal Detector, then it can be theirs. However, this tool is valuable, so this trade will likely cost players a few items from their inventory.

However, there is another, much cheaper method to obtain a Metal Detector. While wandering around the outlaw-inhabited Slatten Dale area, players can find a stream located at the coordinates 29.1 E, 73.9 N on the map. By traveling to this spot, a dead body can be found lying near the water. Get to this body, but one should be wary of going into the stream; swarms of violent slug-like creatures will attack if players spend too much time in the water. Loot the body and a Metal Detector can be picked up without spending a dime.

How To Use The Metal Detector In Atomfall

The Metal Detector will activate whenever there's a buried lunchbox or cache around an area. It does not need to be equipped; it will simply alert the player when there's loot nearby that can be dug up.

On the Metal Detector will be five lights. When there's buried treasure, one of these lights will glow. This will indicate the direction that the player needs to go in order to find the cache. For example, if the light in the middle is on, that means the player needs to walk straight. If a light on the left or right is on, then the player needs to adjust the direction they're facing until the light in the middle is turned on.

When the player is close enough to buried loot, all five lights will glow, and the Metal Director will make a buzzing sound. From here, the option to dig will be available, and the player will be able to dig up the cache or lunchbox that is stashed in that spot.
