Atomfall has confirmed its second story expansion, named The Red Strain, with a launch date set for September 16. The new Atomfall DLC arrives on September 16, so it isn't long before players can get their hands on the next story expansion.
Released earlier this year, Atomfall's launch was hailed as a success by Rebellion Developments CEO Jason Kingsley, thanks in part to its performance on Xbox Game Pass. The game reached over two million players in the first few weeks, making it the best launch in the studio's history. It's an impressive result for a brand-new IP, and the developer has followed up with some strong post-launch support. As well as several important updates, Atomfall's first story expansion, Wicked Isle, launched back in June, giving fans something to enjoy beyond the original experience.

Atomfall's Next Story Expansion is Called The Red Strain, Launching September 16
In a new teaser trailer online, Rebellion Developments confirmed that the second Atomfall DLC is titled The Red Strain, launching on September 16 on all platforms. The trailer was light on details, although the description does prepare players to "expect a highly confidential new location and plenty more mysteries to uncover." No price tag has been given for The Red Strain, but for context, the game's first expansion, Wicked Isle, was set at $19.99.
Players needn't go into the new Atomfall expansion blind. According to the developer, more details about what to expect from The Red Strain will be available "in the lead up to the release," but fans will just have to remain a little more patient for now. With a few weeks to go until The Red Strain, it could be time for players to go back and restart Atomfall's Wicked Isle DLC and play catch-up.
The success of Atomfall means that fans can expect to see plenty more from the franchise in the future. Earlier this year, Rebellion's CEO had already discussed possible Atomfall sequels, although a few months later, it's unclear exactly what the studio plans to do. Still, it's a good sign for Atomfall fans who love that specific world and its unique tone.
