To upgrade weapons in Atomfall, players need to pick up a particular skill and have the materials on-hand to craft an upgraded gun – including a second copy of the gun you want to improve. This guide explains how to upgrade weapons and which materials you will need to gather to craft better weapons in Atomfall.

First, Unlock The Gunsmith Skill

To upgrade weapons, Atomfall players will need to unlock the Gunsmith skill. You must collect the Crafting Skill Manual in the Delta Storage Room (found in the Interchange) to unlock this skill, then spend a whopping 7 skill points to unlock Gunsmith.

After you purchase this skill, though, you will automatically begin to unlock weapon upgrade recipes for every gun you pick up.

There are three tiers for every gun in the game – "Rusty", "Stock", and "Pristine". Most guns you find will be of the "Rusty" type, though some in the mid to late game will be labeled as "Stock". You can only craft "Pristine" weapons.

As you upgrade weapons, Atomfall players will improve the stability, damage, and other stats associated with each gun type.

How To Craft & Upgrade Weapons In Atomfall

To upgrade weapons in Atomfall, you must have four things: two of any weapon at the same quality level, enough Gun Oil, and enough Scrap. The amount of Gun Oil and Scrap you need to complete a weapon upgrade in Atomfall depends on which weapon you have selected, and what upgrade level you wish to craft.

You cannot mix and match weapons of different qualities to craft an upgraded gun. You must have two 'Rusty' or two 'Stock' weapons to create the higher-tier versions. 'Pristine' is the highest tier of weapon available in Atomfall.

It's a good idea to always keep at least one small inventory slot, and one large inventory slot, free in case you find a copy of a gun you like at the same quality. If you find or trade for a matching gun, you'll always have the space to upgrade it from your inventory. You cannot upgrade weapons in Atomfall with items on the ground – they must be in your backpack.

Once you have two of your chosen weapon and enough Gun Oil and Scrap for your weapon type, open the Crafting menu and scroll through the list to find either the 'Stock' or 'Pristine' version of that weapon (depending on which quality you possess).
