Among some recent notable titles to hit the service, Rebellion Developments' latest entry in its popular WW2 series, Sniper Elite: Resistance, was released on Xbox Game Pass at the end of January. The studio has more in store soon for players, though, as its next upcoming title, Atomfall, launches in a few weeks and will also be available on day one with Game Pass. A post-apocalyptic survival FPS set in an alternate 1960s timeline shortly after the real-life Windscale nuclear plant fire in England, Atomfall looks intriguing for numerous reasons.

Atomfall is taking a turn from Rebellion's previous franchise into some different and stranger territory, presenting players with an enigmatic story surrounded by retro sci-fi and creepy folk-horror vibes. Speaking with The Best War Games, Head of Design at Rebellion, Ben Fisher, expressed his excitement that Atomfall is coming to Game Pass, and how that offers a good opportunity and convenient way for many players to give it a try, whether they are already fans, or are casually looking for something new and interesting.

The standard version of Atomfall will drop on Game Pass Ultimate on March 27, 2025. Fans who pre-order the Deluxe Edition will get access to it three days earlier, starting March 24th. It will also be available at retail price on PS4, PS5, and PC through Steam and Epic Games.

Atomfall Dev is Excited for Fans to be Able to Get it on Game Pass

Though it has gone through some growing pains since its introduction in 2017, Xbox Game Pass' recent sales show it having a strong start to 2025. The list of developers and publishers under Microsoft's gaming banner and partnering with it has become extensive and now includes many recognizable studios along with promising newer and upcoming ones that are regularly being added.

Rebellion announced that Atomfall would be a day-one Game Pass title back in November of last year. Fisher mentioned that it coming to the service on launch reinforces the appeal of Game Pass in offering a diverse catalog of titles. This helps make it attractive both for Rebellion and those for whom Atomfall might not be their usual cup of tea, but could potentially find themselves immersed in it nonetheless upon checking it out. As he pointed out:

"A player may not consider themselves to be a fan of survival/action games, but they can now try Atomfall as part of their subscription and could well find that they are encapsulated by the story and the world that we have created."

Atomfall on Game Pass Provides a Great Gateway to Experience It

While it shares a few aspects on the surface with other titles, Rebellion has also been highlighting Atomfall's experimental nature. It looks to take some well-established design mechanics and put its own stamp on them, molding them to fit the vision of its carefully crafted setting and story. Fisher said that its inclusion on Game Pass will let it reach a much wider player base than it likely would have otherwise. He went on to describe reactions to this as largely positive, stating that many fans are as enthused as the developers are about its inclusion on Game Pass, and are eagerly looking forward to it:

"We’ve seen so many comments from players excited that Atomfall is coming to Game Pass, and we can’t wait for them to try it."

Atomfall coming to Xbox Game Pass at launch is a boon for both longtime fans of the genre and the studio, as well as anyone who may not be as familiar with one or the other but might still be enticed by what Atomfall is setting out to offer as a unique experience.
