The CEO of Rebellion Developments attributes much of Atomfall's success to Xbox Game Pass, with the game's release on the service helping to bolster sales and boost discoverability. Atomfall has been a massive hit for the company since its launch in March, continuing to pull in players thanks in no small part to Microsoft's popular subscription service.

Becoming the most successful launch in Rebellion's 32-year history, Atomfall surpassed 1.5 million players in its first week and has since reached over 2 million. Loaded with difficult survival mechanics and set in an alternate version of the United Kingdom in the 1960s, the title quickly became a hot topic for its unique worldbuilding and gameplay, with many players applauding Atomfall for its direction and wide-open quest design. As player numbers continue to grow across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, the CEO of Rebellion Developments is sharing his thoughts about the title's success, paying particular attention to its release on Game Pass.

Rebellion Developments reveals that Atomfall has reached another impressive player milestone, evidencing the game’s successful launch.

In a new chat with GI.biz, Rebellion Developments CEO Jason Kingsley attributed much of Atomfall's success to its day one launch on Xbox Game Pass, noting that he believes word of mouth contributed to a notable boost in premium sales beyond the service. While Kingsley admitted that there was no clear data for this, he believes that the title's Game Pass launch helped its discoverability, while Microsoft's overall assistance also helped make the game an overnight success. While the team initially worried that launching on the premium service would majorly cannibalize sales, Kingsley notes that, while this happened to some extent, what was gained from the cost was "disproportionate."

Work on the game isn't quite finished yet, as the newest Atomfall patch rolled out this week. The update addressed a wide variety of frustrating bugs and improved the overall gameplay experience, improving mouse controls and making some requested changes to weapons. A number of area-specific changes were also implemented, with Rebellion dedicated to improving the title with additional updates coming soon.

Atomfall is one of the best Xbox Game Pass titles for April 2025, alongside heavy hitters like Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Borderlands 3, and Avowed. The smash indie hit Balatro is also available on the service, and more highly anticipated titles are incoming, with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 launching day one on Game Pass on April 24. May promises to be a packed month as well, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Anno 1800, and Dredge all dropping early in the month.
