On May 10th, the Japan Parade will march down 72nd Street in New York City starting at 1pm, and, along with the other features, four members of the cast from Attack on Titan: The Musical will join as well. These seven cast members are Takuro Ohno (Erwin Smith), Ryo Matsuda (Levi), Riona Tatemichi (Hange Zoë), and Blade Attackers Hiroaki Shimoo, Ryūma Hashido, Yukiko Matsumoto, and Takahiko Kato. The musical was performed last fall in New York City to a sold-out audience, with fans traveling far and wide for the chance to see it in person.

The official website for the musical's New York City production describes it as,

ATTACK on TITAN: The Musical is based on one of the best-selling manga series of all time (140 million copies sold worldwide). This adaptation of the Japanese comic/graphic novel by Hajime Isayama combines traditional musical theater techniques with state-of-the-art technology and features a cast of 35 actors.

This production will be performed in Japanese with supertitles in English. Directed by Go Ueki, ATTACK on TITAN: The Musical premiered in Osaka and Tokyo to great success in January 2023. This City Center engagement marks not only the American and New York premiere, but also the first production outside Japan.

The inclusion of the cast in the Japan Parade is presumably thanks to the show's incredible success in New York.

In addition to the cast from Attack on Titan, AnimeNewsNetwork reports that the parade will also feature "TChef Masaharu Morimoto, restauranteur and star of Iron Chef and Iron Chef America, as Grand Marshal and Koji Sato as this year's Japan Parade Community Leader." At the same time as the parade, the Japan Street Fair will be taking place on West 72nd Street. Both of these events will be free for members of the public to attend, unlike the reception and concert the day before.

The Attack on Titan Concert

A Show and Special Reception

The night before the Japan Parade & Street Festival there will be a special Japan Night Reception & Concert event held at the Edison Ballroom. Reception will begin at 5:30pm, which will include traditional Japanese sake tasting along with hors d'oeuvres. The concert will begin at 7:00pm. First, the cast of Attack on Titan: The Musical will perform.

Following this performance, AnimeNewsNetwork reports that,

...MIYABI Koto and Shamisen Ensemble, led by a renowned Japanese koto player, Masayo Ishigure, will perform with this traditional instrument. There will also be a visual presentation of traditional Japanese crafts presented by the title sponsor of the event ASP Group. The event will close with a live performance by Sayaka Yamamoto, former captain of the popular group NMB48, and now a singer-songwriter.

While the night will heavily feature the Attack on Titan cast yet again, it will also showcase other elements of more traditional Japanese culture. This makes it a great event for both otaku and also people interested in Japanese culture to come out and experience something that they can rarely access outside of Japan. Tickets cost $75 and can be purchased here.
