About Mati Kent-Nye
A freelance writer on The Best War Games with three years of experience writing academic essays and fantasy stories, including the Encyclopaedia Marix and Fear of the Dead. The former is an encyclopaedia written from the perspective of various researchers - from anthropologists to mages - and the latter is a self-made D&D system set within the same world as the encyclopaedia. These projects are her pride and joy.
A lifelong fan of video games, she has many happy memories playing with (and usually losing to) her older siblings. That is the unfortunate curse of being the youngest child in a gaming family, which I am sure many of you will relate to. As an adult, she is now one of the best gamers in her family, rivalled only by her brother. Every now and again they like to test their mettle against each other in Age of Wonders III. These duels can last weeks at a time.
She is an avid fan of cartoon series such as Adventure Time, Vox Machina, and Arcane.
Proudest Gaming Achievement
One of my greatest gaming achievements is defeating every boss in Dark Souls III, including all DLC and optional bosses.
Favorite Games
From Overwatch 2 to Baldur's Gate 3, I love games from a variety of genres. Some of my favourites include: Hades, Age of Wonders III, and Dragon Age Inquisition.
Favorite Console
As a child I spent countless hours on my Nintendo DS, playing everything from Big Brain Academy to Nintendogs. My fondest memories with my DS were sitting up well past my bedtime playing with my siblings in the neighbouring bedroom, eyes wide and highly alert for any sound that could indicate my mother coming up the stairs. We had so much fun playing together, and the thrill of defiance made the games all the more exciting. Suppressing my laughter became a game onto its own, not to mention rushing into bed when my mother came to check onto me.
