About Challen Carter

Challen Carter is a writer and filmmaker born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. She earned her BA from Loyola University New Orleans where she was a finalist for the 2020 Dawson Gaillard Award. Challen grew up immersed in the superhero media of the early-2000s, with some of her earliest memories involving watching Power Rangers and Justice League: Unlimited on her mother's box TV set. As an adult, she draws inspiration from Amy Heckerling, Jamie Babbit, and other filmmakers she views as dictators of taste during the mid-late 90s. She strives to create stylized, evocative pieces of work that highlight often overlooked moments in the human experience. Her debut short film, Confessions of an Uptown Slug, is available to stream on YouTube. Her follow-up project, the music video for "Lonely in The Summertime" by Sean Hobbes & The Hi Res, became an official selection for three film festivals and a finalist at both the Pontchartrain Film Festival and the Los Angeles CORE Film Festival. Her writing is featured in The Spring City Journal, Feminist Forum Magazine, For The Punks, and elsewhere.
