About James Clifton

James is a freelance media writer who took a BA in Philosophy and graduated Southampton with more questions then answers. For his Masters, he pivoted to Creative Writing instead. Of course, the whole time, he was only thinking of video games - which is what he wrote his thesis on.

James has a varied media diet; a fondness for nostalgic 3D platformers, and a willingness to cosy up with casual games, but his true passion is for story-heavy RPGs. He also harbours a guilty pleasure for campy FMV games that time would rather forget.

Favorite Games

I scrapped my whole thesis when the expansion for Disco Elysium came out. I then played the whole game again, incorporating all the new scenes into my thesis for analysis - because that game is worth it.

Others include Persona 3, Super Smash Bros (Ultimate), The Secret of Monkey Island, The Witcher 3, Civilization V, Banjo-Kazooie, Red Dead Redemption 2, Before Your Eyes, Pokemon Platinum and many, many more.

Favorite Console

The PS2. It was my first and holds a lot of nostalgia. I'd argue the sixth-generation of consoles was gamings golden age, even if 90% of that argument is comprised of nostalgia.
