About Matthew O’Dwyer
Matthew is a writer for The Best War Games. His first console was the NES, but he made most of his childhood memories with the SNES. Matthew spent much of his early life begging to go to Blockbuster to browse the game section. He tried anything he could get his hands on, which remained true well into adulthood.
Matthew's other hobbies include reading, tabletop roleplaying games, board games, and fiction writing. He will never turn down a good cup of coffee or a charming gaming podcast. Matthew has an MFA in genre fiction and loves reading fantasy and sci-fi.
Favorite Console
The PS4 still sits high as Matthew's favorite console. His Spider-Man themed PS4 Pro has been retired, but sits on a shelf for everyone to see. The PS4 holds a special place in Matthew's heart because of its themes. Having a vast library of themes allowed one to add personality to their console at any given moment, a feature the PS5 desperately needs.
Favorite Games
A fan of many genres, Matthew likes to regularly try anything that seems unique or interesting. Matthew's favorite series include The Last of Us, Red Dead Redemption, Marvel's Spider-Man, Fallout, God of War, Darkest Dungeon, Steamworld, and many more. Some of his favorite individual titles include No Man's Sky, Spiritfarer, What Remains of Edith Finch, and Metaphor ReFantazio.
Industry Focus
Matthew entered the gaming industry in 2022 as a guides writer for DualShockers. He became an Evergreen Editor in 2023 for the same outlet. After taking a brief break, he has begun his journey as a writer for The Best War Games in 2024.
