About Matthew Schomer
Matthew is a journalist in the news department at TheBestWarGames. He holds a Bachelor's degree in journalism from Kent State University and has been an avid gamer since 1985. Matthew formerly served as a news and features editor, trainer, and video producer at DualShockers, specializing in shortform video guides.
Prior to entering the world of electronic entertainment, he was a reporter for multiple rural Ohio newspapers, most notably The Salem News and the Morning Journal (Lisbon), specializing in state and local politics, law, education, and human interest.
When not scouring the internet for the juciest gaming tidbits or grinding away at his favorite RPGs, Matthew enjoys acting and singing. He is wrapping up production on his first audio novel and makes frequent appearances in online readings of the musical Off the Beaten Path and its related Stories of Arlyrus and Chronicles of D'ar plays, as well as serving as a regular contributor to its newsletter, The Karsis Khryer.
Industry Focus
I write all manner of news articles pertaining to video games and their crossovers into the realms of television and movies. In the past, I've also made video versions of top-read guides, as well as list and games review videos.
When I'm not writing, you can usually find me behind my computer monitor, Xbox Series X, or Nintendo Switch, deeply invested in a lore-heavy RPG or wrestling game.
Favorite Games
I'm a big fan or RPGs new and old. Some of my favorites include Suikoden 3, Baldur's Gate 3, Fallout 2, Fallout: New Vegas, and Knights of the Old Republic. Lately, I've been diving hard into Dragon's Dogma 2 and Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes.
When I'm looking for something a little less story-heavy, you can probably find me playing the latest WWE 2K game or some old-school, pre-Madden-exclusive football.
Favorite Console
Tough one. I've been gaming since 1985, so my first console was the Intellivision, a clunky, wood-paneled alternative to the Atari, and you never forget your first love.
Historically, I adore the SNES for its expansive catalog and the PlayStation 2 for the leaps forward it made in gaming, but my current console of choice is the Xbox Series X.
