Summary

  • Avengers: Doomsday includes X-Men characters like Beast and Professor X, who appeared in previous MCU films.
  • Leaked set photos suggest the appearance of a Sentinel, a major X-Men antagonist, in Avengers: Doomsday.
  • Doctor Doom is the main villain in Avengers: Doomsday and may have his own army of Sentinels, adding to the excitement.

Avengers: Doomsday is already in production. Some photos and videos from the set made their rounds on social media, hinting about a potential X-Men villain.

Marvel Studios is bringing the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Several of them have already appeared in some MCU films, like Kelsey Grammer's Beast in The Marvels (2023) and Patrick Stewart's Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022). Grammer and Stewart will reprise their X-Men characters once more in Avengers: Doomsday, along with Ian McKellen (Magneto), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), and James Marsden (Cyclops). However, aside from the mutants, the anticipated tentpole also brings an antagonist from their world.

Avengers: Doomsday Could Be Making One Extremely Positive Change To The Fox X-Men Characters

A group of superheroes joining Avengers: Doomsday will reportedly have a significant upgrade in the upcoming MCU movie.

X user @UnBoxPHDFILM shared two photos from the Avengers: Doomsday set. One snap features a massive leg and shoe. Its monstrous size was visible because it was placed next to a statue that appeared tiny next to it. Also, two men, presumably crew members, were standing next to it and they were small in size compared to the prop. A second shot seemingly supports the first picture and appears to be the upper body part of the massive being on set. A short clip from X user @JEST0Z confirms that the two photos are connected and form a giant robot, which makes it easy for fans to conclude that a Sentinel is part of the film. The leaks on social media received mixed responses. While some were happy to see glimpses of the anticipated tentpole, others were concerned about why some people couldn't keep those significant details all by themselves. Yes, some prefer not to be spoiled.

The Russo brothers said in a previous interview that they wanted to keep the details of the next Avengers movies a secret. Joe Russo said they didn't want people getting photos from set and they were "pretty stringent" about that. However, it seems that those who leaked the photos and video were able to hide them successfully before sharing them online. The Sentinels are iconic mutant-hunting robots. They haven't appeared in the MCU. However, they were prominently featured in 20th Century Fox's X-Men films, especially in X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014). With the mutants' arrival in the MCU, it's not surprising for Sentinels to join them in the new universe.

The leaked photos and video obviously indicate that a Sentinel is joining Avengers: Doomsday. It's exciting to see a Sentinel in the film because Sentinels are major antagonists in the X-Men franchise. The mutants are expected to play a huge role in Avengers 5, so it's not surprising to bring with them their arch-nemesis. However, they might have limited screentime, but this depends on how the character is written. The big bad in Avengers: Doomsday is Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom. In a 2020 issue of X-Men/Fantastic Four, Doctor Doom manipulated Mr. Fantastic's kids Franklin and Valeria, who ran away from their home, and Kitty Pryde into helping him materialize his plan — to create an army of his own version of Sentinels. So, it's also possible that the Sentinel on the Doomsday set is part of Doctor Doom's army. If that's the case, there will be more than one Sentinel and that's all the more exciting.

While fans are happy with the leak, for sure, this will not sit well with Marvel Studios and the Russo brothers. The production teams behind Marvel movies are very secretive and the untimely revelation of the Sentinel's presence in the film could be a major spoiler. It could have been a significant surprise and one of the movie's highlights had it not leaked. Yes, there's no concrete information about the giant robot from the set, so one is free to interpret the posts online. However, one is certain -- its presence alone stirs fans' imagination and imagination has no limits!

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to be released on May 1, 2026.
