With just a few months to go before the highly anticipated RPG Avowed launches on February 18, 2025, Microsoft has revealed how interested fans can receive early access to the game. Developed by Fallout: New Vegas studio Obsidian Entertainment, Avowed will bring players to a new and unexplored section of its Pillars of Eternity setting.
Though not a direct follow-up to the Pillars of Eternity titles, Avowed is still highly anticipated by fans for its place in the same world. It's set in the "Living Lands" region of Eora, a part of the world never before seen or detailed in previous titles. Unfortunately, the game's been delayed since its first reveal in 2020, with one Avowed delay pushing the game back to February 2025 to give players more "breathing room" amid a glut of major Xbox Game Studios-published titles.
Avowed Dev Explains The Lack of Romance Options

With the release date set, Xbox has announced that Avowed pre-orders are now open and unveiled more details about the game's release, including how fans can gain early access. According to the announcement, purchasing the Premium Edition of Avowed on PC or Xbox Series consoles will unlock up to five days of early access, meaning that fans can start playing as soon as February 13, 2024. Avowed is also a day-one Xbox Game Pass release, so interested players who don't want to pay more outside the price of the subscription can still access the game at its appointed release time on February 18.

The announcement also detailed what fans who do choose to pay extra can get on top of the base game. Alongside early access to the game, the Premium Edition of Avowed will include a digital art book and soundtrack, and a pair of premium skin packs for the playable Avowed companion characters. A premium SteelBook edition of the game also includes a physical SteelBook case and a printed map of the Living Lands, as well as a letter from the developer.
The two skin packs include skins inspired by iconic Pillars of Eternity characters and regions, as well as an "Obsidian Collection" pack that features stylish black outfits. Players who acquire the base game via their Xbox Game Pass subscription or a Standard Edition purchase can also upgrade to the digital Premium Edition later for an additional fee. Doing so gains them access to all the digital content promised, including early access, if the upgrade is carried out before the game's global release date.
