Every major action-adventure game or RPG has that one crafting material that seems to be needed for every important upgrade, and in Avowed, that material is Adra and its variants. Every player who has found a weapon and set of armor they like, only to get destroyed a Xaurip when it is no longer strong enough, will know this struggle. To upgrade any weapon or piece of armor to the next rarity level, players will need Adra, but it's increasingly harder to find as the game goes on. In this guide, we'll show you how to get every type of Adra in Avowed

How to Get Adra in Avowed

Avowed-Adra-Example-2

Adra is at the very core of the entire gameplay experience in Avowed. Not only is it the most important crafting material, but it is also at the heart of the game's plot. Because of this, it is not surprising to see it play such a pivotal role in improving your gear.

Adra Basics Explained:

The entire upgrade system in Avowed is built around finding the materials you need in each unique region of the Living Lands. It is impossible to drastically over-level your weapons early, because the materials you'll need to upgrade your weapon cannot be found anywhere on the map. In Dawnshore, the first major region in Avowed, you'll only ever find basic Adra.

With Basic Adra, you'll only be able to upgrade your gear to the second rarity level, Fine. In the second region, the Emerald Stair, you'll only have access to Adra and Awakened Adra, which only gets you to the third rarity tier, Exceptional. This simple mechanic works remarkably well, and ensures the game never feels overly easy.

There are four tiers of Adra, which coincide with the four major regions of Avowed. Each tier of Adra is found in subsequent regions. The four types of Adra are:

How to Get Adra:

There are four methods for acquiring Adra that remain consistent across every variety of the material. However, as you progress through the game, the amount of Adra you can acquire through any of these methods is diminished to some degree. The methods are as follows:

  • Purchase Adra
  • Loot Adra
  • Receive Adra as a Reward
  • Crafting/Breakdown Adra

Purchasing Adra in Avowed:

Buying Adra with Avowed's currency is the easiest way to get it early in the game. Visit every merchant in Paradis, and you'll find enough to get you started. Certain merchants, like Sanza, will only become available after starting or completing side-quests.

Once you leave Dawnshore and enter the Emerald Stair, merchants will begin to sell Awakened Adra, which is the next variant you'll need for upgrades. This pattern will continue as you progress further into Avowed.

Looting Adra:

The next method for acquiring Adra is to loot it from high-level enemies and special chests. Keep in mind that you will not be able to loot Adra from basic or even mid-level enemies in the field. But there are several situations in which you have a good chance of finding it.

In Dawnshore, you want to make sure to take on every bounty. Various bounty targets will either have Adra on their person, or it can be found in chests in their general vicinity. This continues to be true throughout the game, but the chances that you'll find Adra begin to drop with every new region. Simply put, the further you get in the game, the rarer Adra becomes.

Adra Rewards:

This is exactly what you'd expect. Some quests will automatically earn you Adra upon completion. We will work on building a complete list of quests soon. For now, it is a good bet to simply complete every side-quest in each region. Make sure to find every Strangled Adra as well. So far, there has been one per region, and they all award Adra.

Crafting and Breaking Down Item for Adra:

The final method for acquiring Adra is two sides of the crafting mechanic. Basic Adra cannot be crafted, but every tier above it can be crafted using the previous tier. Awakened Adra can be crafted using three basic Adra. All of this is done at the upgrade station in the Party Camp.

You can also break down any weapon or armor that has been upgraded with Adra to receive a portion of it back. The further you get into the game, the more this will become a necessity.

In Avowed, Adra is a finite resource. There is also a smaller supply for each new tier, meaning you'll have less and less to work with as you progress through the game. This means you will not be able to fully upgrade a large number of items.
