Avowed is an upcoming fantasy RPG by The Outer Worlds and Fallout: New Vegas developer Obsidian Entertainment. Set in the same universe as the developer's Pillars of Eternity games, Avowed will see players set foot in the world of Eora and see it from a perspective they never have before, as each Pillars of Eternity game is played from a top-down perspective, whereas Avowed will be in first-person. Fueled by the success of Fallout: New Vegas and The Outer Worlds, Avowed is one of 2024's most anticipated video games, despite garnering some divided reception during January's Xbox Developer Direct.
Currently, Obsidian has only confirmed that Avowed will be launching this fall, which means it could be released anywhere between the end of September to the end of December. That being said, rumors suggest a more definitive release date for the game, and these rumors are backed up by some of the gaming industry's other anticipated titles also launching in the fall. As it turns out, this rumored release date makes a lot of sense, given Obsidian's fall release history and the games Avowed will be competing with this year.
Avowed's Rumored Release Date Seems to Line Up With Obsidian's History
Obsidian's Fall Releases Generally Happen in October or November
As most developers do, Obsidian generally releases its games in either the spring or fall seasons. Most of Obsidian's more popular releases, like Fallout: New Vegas and The Outer Worlds, were given fall release dates, which may bode well for Avowed. Still, Avowed's success will ultimately depend on its quality and reception, although it's nearly essential that it is released at the appropriate time to avoid too much competition with any other games that may be released around the same time.

Almost every one of Obisidan's fall releases has happened in October, so one might expect Avowed to be released in October as well. That being said, both Neverwinter Nights 2 and The Outer Worlds were released at the tail end of October, just days shy of November. This means that Obsidian's preferred fall release window is typically between late October and early November. In light of that, Avowed's rumored release date makes a lot of sense.
Avowed Is Rumored to Be Released in November 2024
While most of Obisidan's past releases have happened in October, that seems unlikely to happen for Avowed this year due to other releases happening during that time. According to a report by The Verge, Bethesda is targeting a September release date for Starfield's Shattered Space DLC and Activision plans to launch the next Call of Duty title in late October.
If that turns out to be true, Obsidian will likely be waiting until at least November to launch Avowed to avoid being overshadowed by other big releases. As such, Avowed is likely looking at an early November release, possibly around November 7 or November 14.
Whether this rumored release date is true likely won't be revealed until the next Xbox games showcase, which will take place on June 9. As Avowed is expected to make an official show of itself at the showcase, its exact release date will also more than likely be disclosed. However, for now, the only information there is to go on is the rumor that Avowed will launch this fall.
