Shatterscarp is the third region players get to visit on their journey in Avowed. Once you reach the Thirdborn settlement, you will meet all kinds of people and one of them is Chiko, who requires your help during the Heart of Valor quest. Chiko's uncle, Keipo, has been down lately, and players are asked to tell him stories about their adventures.
Completing the Heart of Valor side quest in Avowed will reward players with various equipment such as a weapon, an armor set, and a unique trinket. However, keep in mind that it all depends on players' choices.
Avowed: Treasure Map - Painter's Regret Location
You will discover the sad story behind the Painter's Regret treasure upon obtaining the map in Avowed.
How To Trigger Heart Of Valor Quest In Avowed
Upon entering Thirdborn, you can see Chiko standing with an exclamation mark floating on top. After recognizing Kai, Chiko reveals that their uncle Keipo has seemed depressed these last few years, even though he's considered a great hunter.
When you speak with him, he knows you've been sent by Chiko and expresses disinterest in your stories. However, Keipo requests that you bring him the Heart of the Leviathan from the Sand Sea Ruins to see it one last time.
Travel east-most of Shatterscarp to find the Sand Sea Ruins. The entrance, however, is locked. You need to go southeast from the entrance, climb the stairs and the wooden platform, and drop into the hole to unlock the entrance. Next, head inside the ruins and start exploring. It's a fairly large ruin, so take your time and explore thoroughly to grab all available items. Eventually, you'll find the Heart of the Leviathan after defeating a bear and bypassing some traps.
Before leaving, make sure to press the hidden button to reveal a secret room containing the Weathered Journal. Keipo hasn't been completely honest, as he wasn't the only one who defeated the Leviathan.
On your way out, Chiko will stop you and reveal that Keipo is planning to grind the Heart of the Leviathan to create a poison to drink. Return to the uncle, and here, you can choose if you give Keipo the heart or not.
Avowed: Should You Spare Or Kill Ygwulf? (An Untimely End Quest)
Ygwulf is behind the Envoy's assassination and upon meeting him in Avowed players have to make a decision.
Should You Give The Heart Of The Leviathan To Keipo?
There are many outcomes players can expect from committing to any choice in the Heart of Valor quest. Keipo reveals that he has the Dreamscourge and would like to die on his own terms, as a man rather than a monster.
Give Keipo The Leviathan Heart
If you give Keipo the heart, he will thank you and reward the Umpara’s Spear +1. You can then mention Weathered Journal, and he will confess to his wrongdoings and apologize. Here, you have the option to tell the truth to Thirdborn or keep the story a secret. When you leave, Chiko will be with Hajime, and asks if you gave him the heart.
When you confirm, Chiko is incredibly upset and won't listen to whatever you say, even if you reveal Keipo has the Dreamscourge. Here, you can give Hajime the Weathered Journal so he can reveal to Thirdborn that their hero was a liar, or not. If you decide to reveal the truth, Chiko will be devastated as Keipo is not the hero he made himself to be.
Don't Give Keipo The Leviathan Heart
If you don't give the Heart of the Leviathan to Keipo and mention the Weathered Journal, he will not reward you with the weapon and will tell you to leave, even if you sympathize with his situation.
When Chiko and Hajime appear, players can keep the Heart of the Leviathan with them or give it away. Chiko will be pleased you didn't give him the heart and reward you with the Stormdancer set, a unique medium armor. Again, the Envoy has a choice between revealing the truth or not regarding the Weathered Journal.
The best choice would be to not give him the heart and to hide the truth about what really happened. Additionally, players can obtain all the rewards without giving the heart to Keipo. Here's how to do it:
- Speak with Keipo and tell him you know he wants to kill himself.
- Refuse to give him the heart and apologize.
- Mention the Weathered Journal and Umpara after you refuse to give him the heart.
- Assure him you won't reveal his secret.
- Receive Umpara's Spear +1.
- If you don't have the journal, lie to him that you didn't find the heart to get the weapon.
- Talk with Chiko and Hajime.
- Say "Let me hold onto it. I’ll take it far away and keep it safe." To keep the Heart of Leviathan as a Trinket.
- When asked if there's something else, say "[Lie] No, that was all."
- Reveal he has the Dreamscourge.
- Receive the Stormdancer set.
This way, players are rewarded with all possible rewards and Thirdborn remains blissfully unaware of their hero's true nature. Even Kai will agree that this is the best possible outcome.
