In Baldur’s Gate 3, Constitution is an ability score that governs two key aspects: HP and concentration saving throws. HP refers to the total health pool available to the character, while concentration saving throws determine if a character can focus on maintaining their spell.

Constitution increases each time a character levels up. However, certain items in the game can also boost Constitution when equipped or consumed. The following list includes the six best Constitution items in Baldur’s Gate 3 that can help players increase their overall HP and make their character's resilient in the face of concentration saving throws.

  • Where To Find: Purchased from a blood vendor named Araj Oblodra in Moonrise Towers. Players must exchange a half-elf player’s blood to acquire this item.
  • Rarity: Rare Item.

Players can acquire the Elixir of Half-Elven Healing potion in Moonrise Towers, accessible toward the end of Act 2. Reaching this location requires traveling through the treacherous Shadow-Cursed Lands.

Once inside Moonrise Towers, players can find Araj Oblodra, a Drow trader who sells this HP-boosting elixir. Players can consume the elixir using their bonus action, which heals themselves and surrounding allies for 1d20 + Constitution score. The downside to using this potion is that after consumption, all characters healed by the potion's effect suffer from Blood-draw Sickness after a long rest, which applies -1 to all dice rolls until the next long rest.

5 Helmet Of Smiting

Gain Temporary HP When Applying Smite

  • Rarity: Uncommon Item

The Helmet Of Smiting is an HP-boosting equipment that can be acquired while still in Act 1. To obtain the helmet, players must venture into the Goblin Camp and then descend into the Underdark.

The first area players discover upon reaching the Underdark is Selûnite’s Outpost, where they must lockpick a metal door and a gilded chest to obtain the Helmet of Smiting. The helm synergizes well with Paladin and Barbarian builds. Players with the ability to apply Smite can gain temporary HP when equipping the Helmet of Smiting and applying the condition to an enemy.

  • Where To Find: Bargain with Auntie Ethel in exchange for letting her live.
  • Rarity: Common

Players have a chance of obtaining Auntie Ethel’s Hair, a missable consumable, in Act 1. When players uncover Auntie Ethel’s identity, they must chase her into her hideout and fight her.

When Auntie Ethel’s health drops below 20%, she offers the player a difficult bargain. Players can choose to spare Auntie Ethel and allow her to keep Mayrina and her baby in exchange for the witch’s hair. However, players can also try their luck at intimidating or deceiving Auntie Ethel, requiring them to roll a D20. Doing so enables players to save Mayrina, her child, and also acquire Auntie Ethel’s Hair. Players can then consume the hair and add +1 bonus to one of the seven ability scores, including Constitution.

3 Gloves Of Soul Catching

Character acquiring the Gloves of Soul Catching in Baldur's Gate 3
  • Where To Find: Rewarded For Saving Hope
  • Rarity: Legendary

The Gloves of Soul Catching can be obtained midway into Act 3. The players encounter Hope when they enter the House of Hope. Saving Hope from Raphael rewards the player with the Gloves of Soul Catching.

Equipping the gloves sets Constitution to +2, up to a maximum of 20. Additionally, the gloves also come with two special perks: Soul Fist and Soul Catching. The Soul Fist perk allows players to deal an additional 1d10 Force damage when attacking enemies unarmed. The Soul Catching perk allows players to gain 10 temporary HP once per turn when attacking an enemy unarmed. Players can also choose to forego the healing effect to gain advantage on attack rolls and saving throws until the end of their next turn. These perks are phenomenal for a Monk build.

  • Where To Find: Purchased from the Bugbear merchant in Moonrise Towers
  • Rarity: Rare

The Dwarven Splintmail can be purchased from the bugbear vendor, Lann Tarv, in Moonrise Towers. However, Lann Tarv doesn’t open his full inventory unless players manage to persuade Disciple Z’rell to hand over the key to Balthazar’s Room. Now, when players talk to Lann Tarv, they can let the bugbear vendor know that they were sent by Disciple Z’rell, which causes the vendor to open their full inventory, allowing the purchase of Dwarven Splintmail armor.

Besides adding +2 bonus to Constitution, the Dwarven Splintmail also includes two perks: Superior Plate and Body Aid. The Superior Plate perk reduces incoming ranged attack damage by -1, whereas the Body Aid perk grants +1 buff to Strength, saving throws, and ability checks. The one downside players should consider when equipping this armor is that they’ll suffer from disadvantage in Stealth checks.

The Amulet of Greater Health is the best Constitution-boosting item available in the game, as it sets the max Constitution score to 23. Spellcasters like Gale can benefit greatly when equipping the amulet. Additionally, the amulet also provides advantage on Constitution saving throws, again giving spellcasters a better chance at succeeding concentration checks.
