In Baldur's Gate 3, there are many different traders that you can encounter throughout each Act of the game. Knowing where to find them is important, as each individual trader often carries unique Magical Items such as armor and shields, weapons, rings, amulets, cloaks, and more.

When it comes to perfecting the build of your Tav and each of your companions in Baldur's Gate 3, purchasing and equipping the best possible equipment is important, as this can buff your stats, enable new passives, and grant you access to new actions or Spells that synergize with the rest of your kit. When it comes to Mattis, there are some key items that he sells that stand out from others as the best possible choices—each one of them has been outlined in the guide below, as well as which type of build they can fit into.

Baldur's Gate 3: Best Races For Each Patch 8 Subclass

In Baldur's Gate 3, there are a number of different Races and Subclasses resulting in endless possibilities, but some are better matches than others.

The Best Magical Items to Buy From Mattis in Each Baldur's Gate 3 Act

mattis

In Baldur's Gate 3, Mattis is a Tiefling child that you will first encounter at the Druid's home in Emerald Grove alongside the other Tiefling refugees. In Act 1, Mattis can be located not far from the Dragon's Lair hidden entrance, along the path taken to view the Druid ritual and speak to Kagha. In Act 2, Mattis is found inside the Last Light Inn in the Shadow-Cursed Lands, and in Act 3, he can be found in the Requisitioned Barn in Rivington.

In Act 1, Mattis tends to sell mostly junk items with a couple of worthy, but nonmagical, options—such as some dyes and Thieves Tools. For this reason, a section for Act 1 has been avoided, as Act 2 and Act 3 are the only stages in which he stocks Magical items. Mattis also tends to stock fake "Magical" items that serve no other purpose than for bartering/reselling to other merchants, so for obvious reasons, these have also been excluded from the items below.

Cloak of Cunning Brume

70 Gold

Uncommon

Cunning Brume - When the wearer Disengages, they also create a foggy cloud with 2m radius that lasts for 1 turn.

  • This Cloak is great for those who tend to move in and out of melee range on the same turn, particuarly for Rogues and some melee/hybrid Ranger builds, such as the Gloomstalker Assassin. This is because the Rogue/Gloomstalker can use the Fog to their advantage to hide for Advantage or Sneak Attack.

Acrobatics +!

AC +1

  • These shoes are a solid Second Act footwear choice for melee characters who can benefit from the boost to Acrobatics while also increasing their AC. Acrobatics helps your characters resist being shoved around the battlefield. Also, it increases the chance to succeed any other Acrobatics-related dice roll, so Classes such as Fighter, Barbarian, Rogue, Monk, Bard, or Paladin could all make use of this, depending on your build.

Corvid Token

230 Gold

Very Rare

Polymorph: Dire Raven - Take the shape of a Dire Raven that can avoid attention and Blind enemies.

Boon of the Raven Queen - While wearing the amulet, the wearer's jump and flying speed increase by 5ft, and they gain the Feather Fall condition.

Feather Fall's effect will persist when the wearer is Wild-Shaped or Polymorphed

  • This Amulet offers quite a bit of utility for a single item, and it makes a nice addition to a few different classes or builds. Sorcerers and Wizards can use it to add to their Spell options in combat or even get out of sticky situations, such as being surrounded by melee enemies. Druids can utilize the Wild Shape benefits of Feather Fall and add to the list of creatures they can morph into with Polymorph: Dire Raven. Some Rogue builds can use the Polymorph properties to play a support role, harassing and blinding enemies before shifting back once your Raven HP hits 0 to then strike the blinded enemies with a brutal sneak attack—truly, there are so many possibilities for this item.

Scabby Pugilist Circlet

120 Gold

Rare

Martial Bravery - Your weapon and unarmed attacks deal an additional 2 damage while surrounded by 2 or more foes.

  • This Circlet is a great addition to Unarmed fighting builds, primarily most Monk setups, or the likes of some unarmed Tavern Brawler builds that work for Fighters and Barbarians. In combat, every little bit of damage can make all the difference, so stacking an extra 2 damage on each attack passively every time at least 2 foes surround you is a good mechanic that you should be able to trigger quite consistently.

Replaces effects from other elixirs when drunk.

  • The Supreme Elixir of Arcane Cultivation is a nice little find to keep on hand for a particularly tough upcoming boss fight. Level 4 Spells really start to ramp up in power, so being able to grant yourself an additional slot at this level can come in clutch.

Drink to increase the effectiveness of your spells. You gain 3 stacks of Arcane Acuity until your next long rest.

Replaces effects from other elixirs when drunk.

  • Again, this is a great find to pick up and keep aside for when you anticipate a tough battle is approaching. After drinking it, your character will gain improved potency with their spells due to stacking 3 slots of Arcane Acuity—an effect that grants a +1 bonus to Spell attack rolls and Spell Save DC. This is perfect for any primary caster in your party, such as Wizards, Sorcerers, some Warlock builds, and some Cleric builds.
