The long-awaited Patch 8 for Baldur's Gate 3 has finally launched, and players can finally sink their teeth into a few exciting new subclasses. Spellcasters have a lot of new abilities and skills to explore for characters who prefer to use magical powers when targeting their enemies.
The best magical DPS dealers among the Patch 8 subclasses are a mix of melee and ranged damage. Some of them take the role of pure spellcasters, while others imbue their weapons with arcane power and combine melee damage with magical powers.
For those players who are interested in multiclassing, choose classes that have the same spellcasting modifier, or ensure that the required ability scores for the class are in place. For example, a Bladesinger Bard will need both high Intelligence and Charisma scores. Cleric and Druid are a nice combination because they both use Wisdom.
Baldur's Gate 3: Best Physical DPS Builds With The Patch 8 Subclasses
Many characters in BG3 shun the arcane arts and keep their damage strictly on a physical level.
Death Domain Cleric
The Power of Life And Death, But Mostly Death
- This Cleric has the usual healing spells but also works in the deadly art of Necromancy.
This Cleric still has the basic healing abilities inherent with the class, but also has special powers deeply connected to spells that deal Necrotic damage. These spells also appear in the Necromancy spell list used by Wizards, and Wisdom is still their most important ability score.
Races
- Shield Dwarf. Dwarven Combat Training and Dwarven Resilience give this Cleric extra weapon skills and Poison resistance, and the subrace gives them extra AC in the form of Light and Medium Armor.
-
Zariel Tiefling. The only Teifling subrace that uses Constitution as the casting modifier for their innate casting abilities instead of Charisma. Searing Smite and
Branding Smite
are handy for melee range fighting.
- Copper or Green Dragonborn. Acid or Poison combine nicely with the Necromancer spells, but players are free to choose virtually any color of Dragonborn. What's more important is that every choice has its own breath weapon attack and increased resistance to elemental damage.
Feats
- War Caster. Especially good if this Cleric is also a healer, it gives them an Advantage on Concentration checks for maintaining a spell. It also grants the ability to use Shocking Grasp as a reaction.

Circle of The Stars Druid
Draw Power From the Starry Skies
- A savage spellcasting build becomes even more powerful with this new subclass.
