In the final Act of Baldur's Gate 3, players can expect quite the challenge, but thankfully, they also have access to many of the best weapons in the game. Most of the Legendary weapons are found in Act 3, and as each of them has a Weapon Enchantment of +3, their attacks not only deal more damage but have a higher likelihood of hitting.

If players want a better chance at fighting off the hordes of the Absolute in Baldur's Gate 3, then seek out these one-handed weapons.

These elite weapons for the endgame are best known for their unique abilities and effects. Many of these abilities are able to completely turn the tides in combat. It's also crucial that players know where to find the best Act 3 weapons in BG3.

Updated on January 25, 2025, by Joe Grantham: Baldur's Gate 3 is as popular as ever and with Patch 8 on the way with 12 new subclasses, it's hard to not get excited. Whether players are continuing their existing campaigns or starting new playthroughs, they will eventually reach the penultimate Act. As many of the best Act 3 weapons in BG3 happen to be the best in the game, this list has been updated to include more options across a wider variety of weapon types.

7 Duellist's Prerogative

Base Damage: 5~15

Duellist's Prerogative in Baldur's Gate 3

Type

Rapier

Damage

1d8 + 3 Piercing + 1d4 Necrotic

Enchantment

+3

Effects

  • Elegant Duellist: While the off-hand is empty, score a Critical Hit when rolling a 19. Moreover, gain an additional reaction per turn.
  • Withering Cut: On a hit with a melee weapon, use a reaction to deal additional Necrotic damage equal to Proficiency Bonus.
  • Challenge to Duel (Lvl 1 Spell): Challenge an enemy to attack and inflict Bleeding on them.
  • Dueller's Enthusiasm: When not dual-wielding, make an additional melee attack.
  • Location: Given as a reward for completing the Save Vanra quest.

Duellist's Prerogative is easily the best Rapier in Baldur's Gate 3 and one of the best Act 3 weapons. The weapon encourages players to wield no other weapon or shield, by granting easier crits, an additional attack, and even an extra reaction per turn. This in turn leads to significantly more damage, especially as the Rapier also provides the Withering Cut reaction to deal additional Necrotic damage.

To get their hands on this incredibly strong weapon, players will need to complete the 'Save Vanra' quest. To start this quest, players will first need to speak to Lora in the Basilisk Gate Barracks of the Lower City. However, this will only be possible if players saved Mayrina from the hag in Act 1.

6 Hellfire Greataxe

Base Damage: 4~20

Baldur's Gate 3 Very Rare Greataxe

Type

Greataxe

Damage

1d12 + 2 Slashing + 1d6 Fire

Enchantment

+2

Effects

  • Thermodynamo: Whenever the wielder deals damage with this weapon, they gain 2 turns of Heat.
  • Hellflame Cleave: Spew hellish flames and strike foes.
  • Location: The Sorcerous Sundries in the Lower City.

There are plenty of deadly Axes in BG3, but the best has to be the Hellfire Greataxe, thanks to its colossal damage bolstered by fire. It becomes even stronger when used as part of a build that utilizes Heat, and the Hellflame Cleave Action is great for taking down groups of enemies, even if they are resistant to Fire, as it ignores the resistance.

To get this two-handed Greataxe, players will need to head to the Sorcerous Sundries in the Lower City, and from there access the Sorcerous Vault. Inside the illusion section of the vault, players will find plenty of great loot, including the axe.

5 Markoheshkir

Base Damage: 3~10

A close-up image of the Markoheshkir staff in Baldur's Gate 3

Type

Quarterstaff

Damage

1d8 + 2 Bludgeoning

Enchantment

+1 to Spell Save DC and Spell Attack Rolls

Effects

  • Arcane Battery: The next spell cast doesn't cost a spell slot.
  • Kereska's Favor (Lvl 4 Spell): Many variants that grant resistance, bonus damage, and spells for a certain damage type, such as Fire or Poison.
  • Location: Found inside a Globe of Invulnerability in Ramazith's Tower.

Markoheshkir is arguably the best Staff in Baldur's Gate 3 for two main reasons. First of all, Arcane Battery allows players to use any spell for free, even Level 6 spells. This can be done once per Long Rest. Secondly, the Kereska's Favor spell is by far one of the best in the game due to all the bonuses and extra spells it grants.

To find this Legendary Staff, players will need to make their way to Ramazith's Tower, and use some form of See Invisibility to locate a lever. Using this lever will free Markoheshkir from the Globe of Invulnerability that protects it.

4 Crimson Mischief

Base Damage: 4~12

Baldur's Gate 3 Crimson Mischief Shortsword

Type

Shortsword

Damage

1d6 + 2 Piercing + 1d4 Necrotic

Enchantment

+3

Effects

  • Prey Upon the Weak: This weapon deals an additional 1-4 Piercing damage against targets with 50% of their hit points or fewer.
  • Redvein Savagery: When the wielder makes an attack with Advantage, the target takes an additional 7 Piercing damage.
  • Crimson Weapon: When the wielder makes an attack with their off-hand weapon, they can add their Ability Modifier to the damage of the attack.
  • Location: Looted from Orin in the Temple of Bhaal.

Despite not appearing to have the most damage, Crimson Mischief is one of the best Act 3 weapons, and arguably the best Shortsword in all of Baldur's Gate 3. This is due to the extra damage that can be applied, especially the flat 7 Piercing damage, although this does rely on having a consistent way to attack with Advantage.

Baldur's Gate 3: Combat Pro Tips To Dominate

Encounters in Baldur’s Gate 3 describe combat scenarios where the game’s exploration transitions into turn-based combat.

Obtaining Crimson Mischief is fairly straightforward as players will need to kill Orin as part of the main story anyway. She can be found in the Bhaal Temple, but expect a fierce fight.

3 Nyrulna

Base Damage: 5~17

Baldur's Gate 3 Nyrulna Trident

Type

Trident

Damage

1d8 + 3 Piercing + 1d6 Thunder

Enchantment

+3

Effects

  • Zephyr Connection: This weapon will return when thrown. Cannot be forced to drop the trident. When thrown, it creates an explosion that deals 3d4 (3~12) Thunder damage in a 6m blast.
  • Veil of the Wind: Gain a +3m bonus to movement speed and jump distance. Gives Immunity to falling damage.
  • Nyrulna: Glowing: This object shines with a glowing light in a radius of 6m.
  • Zephyr Flash: Rush forward, creating an air vortex that blasts foes and possibly inflicts Bleeding.
  • Zephyr Break: Zephyr Break imitates the effects of the spell Gust of Wind while dealing thunder damage.
  • Location: Acquired through many steps at the circus in Rivington

Nyrulna is considered one of the best melee weapons in Baldur's Gate 3, and as a versatile Pike, it can be used in one hand or two. It has great accuracy and plenty of bonus Thunder damage, as well as a host of passive and active abilities. The best of these is the ability to throw Nyrulna to create an AOE blast. Thankfully, it automatically returns.

Many players don't know about this incredibly strong weapon for Act 3, because of how difficult it is to acquire. At the Circus of the Last Days, players will first need to steal the Djinni Ring from Akabi, and then equip it to win his Jackpot. They will then be teleported to the jungle where Nyrulna waits in a locked chest with a DC of 20.

2 Gontr Mael

Base Damage: 4~11

Gontr Mael in Baldur's Gate 3

Type

Longbow

Damage

1d8 + 3 Piercing

Enchantment

+3

Effects

  • Promised Victory: Possibly inflict Guiding Light on hits.
  • Celestial Haste (Lvl 3 Spell: Hasten for 5 turns without becoming lethargic at the end.
  • Bolt of Celestial Light (Action): Frightens a target with the first arrow. Successful ranged attacks with this weapon then deal 1d4 bonus Radiant damage.
  • Location: Found on the Steel Watcher Titan in the Control Center of the Steel Watch Foundry.

When players are looking for the best weapons in Act 3, they aren't just looking for melee options, but ranged options too. The best bow in Act 3, and also the game, is Gontr Mael, which has a slew of bonuses. First of all, as a Legendary weapon, it has a Weapon Enchantment of +3, making attacks significantly more likely to hit.

BG3
Baldur's Gate 3: Weapons You Can Only Craft

Similar to other RPGs, players of Baldur’s Gate 3 have the opportunity to create a wide variety of items to use in their playthroughs.

If Guiding Light is applied to a target, players will then have Advantage on their next attack against them, creating a chain of success. It also has ways of Frightening targets and dealing extra Radiant damage. The greatest boon, however, is the Celestial Haste spell, which grants Haste for 5 rounds of extra Actions, more movement speed, and increased AC. To obtain Gontr Mael, enter the Steel Watch Foundry, and reach the Control Center. Here, players will battle the Steel Watcher Titan, and if successful, the bow will be dropped as loot.

1 Balduran's Giantslayer

Base Damage: 5~15

Baldur's Gate 3 Balduran's Giantslayer Greatsword

Type

Greatsword

Damage

2d6 + 3 Slashing

Enchantment

+3

Effects

  • Giantslayer: On a hit, double the damage from the user's Strength Modifier. This weapon grants the wielder Advantage on Attack Rolls against Large, Huge, or Gargantuan creatures.
  • Giant Form: Grow to a fearsome size. Weapons deal an additional 1d6 damage, and the user gains 27 Temporary Hit Points and Advantage on Strength Checks and Saving Throws.
  • Topple the Big Folk (Action): Deals damage equal to the user's Proficiency bonus. On a hit, creatures that are size Large or larger must succeed on a Strength save or fall prone.
  • Location: Looted from Ansur the Dragon in the Wyrmway, accessed from Wyrm's Rock prison.

Balduran's Giantslayer is the best Greatsword in BG3 and is thus regarded as a primary pickup for Fighters, Paladins, and other martial classes. It has excellent base damage, which can be improved by growing to a fearsome size, and a character's Strength Modifier is used twice for even bigger hits. Attacking large enemies such as the Steel Watchers, found throughout Act 3, will always be with Advantage, making hits much more likely.

To get both hands on Balduran's Giantslayer, players will need to find the entrance to the Wyrmway, which is a secret location in Act 3, accessed from the Wyrm's Rock prison. Here there are two dragon head torches, which if hit with lightning damage, will open up the entrance. In the Wyrmway, players will eventually find the dragon Ansur, who will drop the sword and other top-tier gear upon death.
