Summary

  • Blunt weapons like clubs and maces in Baldur's Gate 3 are essential for players wanting to deal bludgeoning damage and unleash their barbaric tendencies.
  • The Club of Hill Giant Strength may not deal impressive damage, but it immediately boosts the player's Strength attribute to 19, making it a valuable weapon until something better is found.
  • The Shattered Flail is a risky weapon that heals the wielder with each hit but can make them go Mad if they don't continue attacking, making it a dangerous and unpredictable choice.

Weapons are absolutely necessary to Baldur’s Gate 3, as not every battle can be won with a lute or a charismatic voice. Some enemies are interested in only bloodshed, so players best ready themselves with the best weapons in Baldur’s Gate 3 for the fight that lies ahead. Yet, there are many different types of weapons and damage types. One of these damage types is Bludgeoning, which comes from blunt weapons like clubs, greatclubs, light hammers, maces, quarterstaves, warhammers, and mauls.

Baldur's Gate 3: 7 Worst Decisions You Can Make

Baldur's Gate 3 holds some truly terrible choices that the player can make, with these decisions forever altering the fate of the characters.

Suppose players are interested in bringing forth an arsenal of the best bludgeoning weapons in Baldur’s Gate 3. In that case, these blunt weapons are definitely going to interest the barbaric Tav that wants to bash their enemies heads in, rather than going for something like fire or a swift cut with a sword. Not that there’s anything wrong with a little sadism in Baldur’s Gate 3, especially to the Dark Urge players.

7 Club Of Hill Giant Strength

1~4 Damage

Club of Hill Giant Strength
  • Where To Find: Break the Stool of Hill Giant Strength found on the highest floor in the Arcane Tower
  • Effects: Splinters of a Giant’s Might – Increases Strength to 19
  • Weapon Actions: Concussive Smash

Whilst the damage of the Club Of Hill Giant Strength does not look impressive, and the damage numbers do not exactly aspire confidence, it’s still a weapon worth checking out, since players will see their Strength attribute immediately jump to 19. This can help with many situations in the game until players find a better weapon and invest in Strength on their own accord rather than relying on a used-up chair leg.

6 Shattered Flail

3~8 Damage

gnoll with the Shattered Flail
  • Where To Find: Dropped by Flind in The Risen Road
  • Effects: Yeenoghu’s Gift – Hitting an enemy with this weapon heals the wielder for 1-6 hit points – but they can go Mad if they don’t continue hitting an enemy each turn
  • Weapon Actions: Concussive Smash

This weapon can be quite the danger, and somewhat of a burden if used incorrectly. The Shattered Flail is a gamble, and players will want to make sure there are a few enemies around to get close and personal with. The damage itself is acceptable, but it’s Yeenoghu’s Gift that makes the weapon shine, providing players with healing for every hit; just try not to go Mad, which makes the character holding the weapon hostile to everyone, friend, and foe.

5 Faithbreaker

2~11 Damage

Faithbreaker
  • Where To Find: Looted from Dror Ragzlin in the Shattered Sanctum
  • Effects: None
  • Weapon Actions: Backbreaker, Concussive Smash, Weakning Strike, Absolute Power

Another weapon found early on, the Faithbreaker is a trophy to take from Dror Ragzlin, an enemy found within the Goblin Camp that some new players might struggle with. When wielding the Faithbreaker, players will be blessed with a great set of Bludgeoning damage, which is nice to test out on the army of goblins waiting for them.

Even better, is the Absolute Power weapon action exclusive to the Faithbreaker, which provides a surge of Divine energy to deal an additional 1d6 Force damage, and perhaps even push targets back 5 meters.

4 Hamarhraft

2~12 Damage

Baldur's Gate 3 Hamarhraft Maul
  • Where To Find: Inside a Gilded Chest in Waukeen’s Rest, The Risen Road
  • Effects: Shockwave – When the wearer jumps, they deal 1d4 Thunder damage in a 3m radius upon landing. Tenacity – When you miss an attack, you deal Bludgeoning damage anyway
  • Weapon Actions: Backbreaker, Concussive Smash

Not just a pretty design, the Hamarhraft can be used for some shockingly important reasons, pun intended. With the Shockwave effect, using a Bonus Action like jumping can cause Thunder damage, and being an AoE attack, this can help weaken enemies slightly more than usual. It’s got a great damage range, but what cements this Maul as a grand weapon is the fact that it has Tenacity, a great effect to always make sure an enemy is hit.

3 Doom Hammer

2~12 Damage

Grat the Trader
  • Where To Find: Purchased from Grat the Trader in the Goblin Camp
  • Effects: Edge of Terror – Each strike fills the target with a chilling dread that prevents it from regaining Hit Points. Undead creatures also get the Disadvantage of attack Rolls. Tenacity – When you miss an attack, you deal Bludgeoning damage anyway
  • Weapon Actions: Backbreaker, Concussive Smash

An easy-to-find weapon, this Maul can provide its targets with Bone Chilled on a successful hit. This can be extremely useful when fighting enemies with Clerics or healing properties because the special effect of the Doom Hammer will stop these pesky foes from healing themselves or being healed by others.

Baldur's Gate 3: 21 Characters You Should Kill

Baldur's Gate 3 players a likely to take down a variety of characters during their playthrough, but some NPCs are more rewarding to kill than others.

Hitting undead enemies will also provide them with a Disadvantage to their Attack Rolls, meaning it is less likely that they will hit hard.

2 Corpsegrinder

5~18 Damage

Baldur's Gate 3 Maul +2
  • Where To Find: Dropped by Stone Lord Agents, Open Hand Temple, Rivington
  • Effects: Tenacity – When you miss an attack, you deal Bludgeoning damage anyway
  • Weapon Actions: Backbreaker, Concussive Smash, Grand Slam

What better use for a Bludgeoning damage weapon in Baldur’s Gate 3 than one that will always deal Bludgeoning damage? The Corpsegrinder will always provide players with damage to their enemies upon a hit, even if they have missed. This can be especially useful when struggling against an enemy who just keeps being able to avoid every attack. Paired with the additional Thunder damage, and players are in for a good time.

1 Dwarven Thrower

3~12 Damage

Baldur's Gate 3 Fighter As Shield Dwarf In Character Creation
  • Where To Find: Purchased from Ferg Drogher in Rivington
  • Effects: Homing Weapon – This weapon will return to its owner when thrown. Shocking Bound – A dwarf throwing this Warhammer deals an extra 1d8 Bludgeoning damage. If the target is a Large, Huge, or Gargantuan creature, the strike deals an additional 2d8 Bludgeoning damage
  • Weapon Actions: Backbreaker, Concussive Smash, Weakening Strike

The Dwarven Thrower is a Very Rare Warhammer and one that deserves some love. Players can treat it like an oversized Mjolnir, as they can throw it and it will return to the wielder. Even better still, other than its already great damage stats, is that Dwarves that use this weapon will see a grand advantage against larger foes, with even more Bludgeoning damage to enhance their battle skills.
