Summary

  • Pikes in Baldur's Gate 3 are powerful melee weapons that deal Piercing damage and have extra reach, allowing players to attack enemies from a distance.
  • The Pike +1 is an upgraded version of the standard Pike, with a +1 bonus to Attack Rolls and Damage Rolls, making it more effective in combat.
  • The Returning Pike is a unique weapon that can be thrown and will return to the owner after hitting a target, offering both range and melee capabilities.

Baldur's Gate 3 is a game with a tremendous amount of weapons, both melee and ranged. Among the best melee weapons in the game are Pikes, which are wielded with two hands and deal Piercing damage. Pikes require characters to have Martial Proficiency to get the most out of them and the character's Strength modifier is added to the damage. Pikes also have extra reach over most other weapons, meaning that players can attack enemies who are 2.5m / 8ft away, an advantage that should not be overlooked

Baldur's Gate 3 Best Greatswords
Baldur's Gate 3: Every Greatsword, Ranked

Greatswords are among the most powerful weapons in Baldur's Gate 3, and these are the best of the bunch.

Every Pike in BG3 has at least three basic actions, the first of these being Rush Attack which causes the player to charge forward and attack the first enemy in their way. Piercing Strike can inflict Gaping Wounds which will cause enemies to take bonus damage every time they are attacked. Finally, Brace allows players to sacrifice movement on a turn for a better chance of dealing more damage. The best Pikes have bonus damage and unique effects.

There isn't anything special about the basic Pike in Baldur's Gate 3 which deals the standard 1d10 Piercing damage. However, when compared with other early-game weapons that players will acquire at the start of Act 1, this is fairly good damage, and the extra reach of Pikes means that players will get in a few extra attacks against enemies that would otherwise be too far away.

When players are still at a low level, the Pike should be available from multiple merchants for a cheap price, but it can also be picked up from many dead enemies throughout the game.

1d10 + 1 Piercing

The Pike +1 has one simple advantage over the standard Pike and this is the Weapon Enchantment +1 it comes with, adding +1 to both Attack Rolls and Damage Rolls. This means that attacks with this weapon will not only do more damage, but they are more likely to hit successfully in the first place.

Not all Shortswords in Baldur's Gate 3 are created equal. Here are the best ones players can find on their journey.

To get the Pike +1 players will need to head to the Githyanki Creche Y'llek where it can be purchased from the quartermaster A'jak'nir Jeera. Alternatively, if players find the Zhentarim Hideout, it can be bought from the trader Brem instead.

Homing Weapon: This weapon will return to its owner when thrown.

The Returning Pike is an extremely interesting weapon in Baldur's Gate 3 as not only can it be thrown which is unique among Pikes, but it will actually return to the owner after landing and hopefully impaling a target. This adds a whole other dynamic to combat in BG3, as with one weapon players have range and melee, and when they don't have enough movement they can throw their Pike.

Other than the Homing Weapon skill, there isn't anything too special about the Returning Pike which has the same damage as the Pike +1. To get their hands on the Returning Pike players simply need to head to the Goblin Camp and purchase it from Grat the Trader.

2 Unseen Menace

Invisible Weapon: This weapon is Invisible while equipped. It loses this property for 2 rounds on a missed Attack Roll. Invisible: Affected entity can't be disarmed. It has Advantage on Attack Rolls. It scores a Critical Hit when rolling a 19.

The aptly named Unseen Menace is a Pike with plenty of potential if its Invisible status is maintained by avoiding failed Attack Rolls. While the fact that it can't be disarmed while Invisible will be periodically helpful, the main benefit is that two dice will be rolled instead of one with the highest number being taken. This means that players are more likely to land more attacks, and Critical Hits are also more likely.

Axes in Baldur's Gate 3 can be extremely useful weapons to have access to; here are the best ones players can find during their playthrough.

The Unseen Menace can be purchased from the quartermaster A'jak'nir Jeera at Creche Y'llek. This Githyanki Creche is located directly under Rosymorn Monastery on the way to the mountain pass, one of the ways to reach Act 3 in Baldur's Gate 3.

1d10 +2 Piercing +1d4 Force

Rare

N/A

Although the Breaching Pikestaff has no unique effects or actions, it is by far the best Pike in Baldur's Gate 3 thanks to its incredible damage. Not only does it deal the most Piercing damage with its Weapon Enchantment +2, but it also deals an additional 1d4 Force damage. Few enemies are resistant or immune to Force damage in BG3 which lends it strength.

Given the power of the Breaching Pikestaff, players will have to reach Act 3 before they can take it into battle. It can be found in the Lower City Sewers, more specifically in the Ancient Lair which is accessed through a passageway to the west of the Undercity Ruins waypoint.
