Baldur's Gate 3 draws its gameplay and world directly from Dungeons & Dragons. This means you can interact with the world in ways you might not expect to circumvent areas or discover hidden secrets. There are many breakable doors, traps, and walls throughout Baldur's Gate 3. They all have health bars and varying levels of toughness. These toughness levels are sturdy, medium, and greater. If you find yourself swinging at a wall, and its health bar is not draining, then it may be a good idea to change tactics or come back later. This guide will explain how to destroy sturdy walls.

Magic within Baldur's Gate 3 means that most players will be able to summon something to aid them in battle, but some summons prove to be more useful.

Sturdy, Medium, and Greater Toughness

If you are not doing damage, check the wall's health bar to see its toughness. Each level of toughness demands that a certain amount of damage must be dealt to it in a single blow. The toughness of walls and doors will scale upward throughout the game.

  • Sturdy - Requires at least 10 damage in a single attack
  • Medium - Requires at least 22 damage in a single attack
  • Greater- Requires at least 50 damage in a single attack

You can also examine an object by right-clicking on it to view its resistances and weaknesses and change up your strategy. Don't be afraid to quicksave and then put down an explosive to simply blow things up. You'd be surprised by what you can do with some smokepowder and a fire arrow. Just be aware of the explosion radius, as you may hurt your party or anger NPCs.

Spells

Many spells can destroy objects. Use the correct element on an object if it has a weakness. For most sturdy walls, you can use the Thunderwave spell as it shoots outward with violent force. This spell can be learned early on by druids, sorcerers, wizards, and even bards. Avoid using it while pointing at party members, as it will knock them back for damage as well.

Weapons

Check for weaknesses and change to elemental weapons if you have any. Most sturdy doors and higher will be immune to slashing damage. This means it's time to put away the swords and instead equip hammers or pickaxes. Give your most powerful blunt weapons to your characters with high strength and let them smash away. You can also use potions that enhance strength to aid your party members.
