Patch 8 for Baldur's Gate 3 is currently in development. It's set to be Baldur's Gate 3's final patch, with any subsequent updates likely to only involve smaller fixes rather than large amounts of content. Patch 8 will include some massive additions for Baldur's Gate 3 and will include a photo mode, new subclasses, cross-play, and a slew of bug fixes. Many of these features have been long-anticipated by the community, so Patch 8 is sure to be a hit for many players.

Larian has stated that BG3 Patch 8 will be its final one before it moves onto other projects, but there are still some parts of Baldur's Gate 3 that could benefit from at least one more major update. They include giving more screen time to certain characters, adding one more class, and improving reactivity.

Why One Baldur's Gate 3 Death Still Hits Hard Over a Year Later

Baldur's Gate 3 presents many heartbreaking moments, but one character's fate remains especially tragic, even with player intervention.

Baldur's Gate 3 as an Evolving Game

Baldur's Gate 3's latest released patch, Patch 7, included new endings for evil playthroughs and added catharsis for players who chose to pursue Baldur's Gate 3's evil storyline. Previous Baldur's Gate 3 patches included an epilogue, additional dialogue lines for companions, fixed cinematics, a mirror that allows players to change their character's appearance, the new Honor Mode, and other additions. As a result, Baldur's Gate 3 looks very different from the version that launched in August 2023. Overall, it's a more complete game with better endings, more complete and polished characters, and better playability and functionality.

While a lot has been added to Baldur's Gate 3, there is potential for so much more to be included. One area that can be addressed is the disparity in the amount of content between the core party members, particularly Wyll. While party members like Astarion and Shadowheart have hours of storylines, different kissing animations, and personal quests, Wyll's personal storyline has hours less content than Astarion's, despite his story being personally tied to Baldur's Gate 3's main storyline. While other characters got additional animations and voiced dialogue with each patch, Wyll's own content has gone largely untouched despite the room for improvement.

Another area that can be improved through a patch is adding more reactivity to the Dark Urge, particularly in Act 3. The companions have a restrained reaction in the aftermath of the Dark Urge's fight against Orin. The romanced companion's reaction is especially disappointing, and in some cases it feels better to not have them present at all because the reaction is so muted. Orin could also benefit from having another scene with the Dark Urge, as she has all the same cutscenes with them as with a custom character, with the only difference being a change in dialogue and the duel. Alternatively, an added memory such as when taking the Noblestalk or casting the Level 6 spell Heal on the Dark Urge in Act 3.

Patch 8 for Baldur's Gate 3 adds more subclasses, but one class that is still noticeably missing is the Artificer. The Artificer isn't a part of the core 12 classes of Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition, but it's an incredibly popular class and has become a staple for many campaigns. Adding the Artificer and its subclasses, including possibly the new Cartographer once Eberron: Forge of the Artificer is published later in 2025, would be a massive boon for Baldur's Gate 3 and give players far more flexibility in builds and strategy. Gortash's build is already very similar to the Artificer, and so there is a precedent for it, possibly giving any Artificer player characters unique dialogue with Gortash and expanding on his role as an antagonist.
