Toll collectors are nothing new to the RPG universe but there is one in Baldur's Gate 3 that is particularly persistent. In the middle of Reinthwin Town, Gerringothe Thorm stands and demands tribute in the form of gold coins before being permitted to pass peacefully.
But players who toss him a few coins may quickly find that Gerringothe endlessly requests even more coins. Baldur's Gate 3 gives players a few choices. Gamers can talk their way out of it, refuse to pay, or give Gerringothe every single gold coin earned up until this point.
This article divulges consequences within the game and reveals information the player's character may not know. Gamers committed to role-playing may wish to stop reading and find these things out for themselves.
Should You Pay Gerringothe Thorm The Toll Collector?
-
Do not pay Gerringothe, he will consume gold coins forever
- Even with all the player's money, Gerringothe demands more money
-
By passing the conversation skill checks, Gerringothe will self-destruct
- This will also kill the Visages
-
If players simply refuse to pay more, Gerringothe becomes a boss fight
- The Visages will join in the boss fight
Gerringothe will never be satisfied, no matter how many gold coins he eats. Those looking to level up fast will be more than happy to kill him, which is likely the best outcome of this scenario. There is a bunch of experience and they can take the coins that he's taken off of previous travelers.
Anybody who chose to get the Mark of the Absolute will find that the toll collector doesn't care. He's a monster isolated from these events. But he can still be "reasoned" with to some degree. If players convince him not to collect the toll, he explodes and takes out all of his Visages will him.
Baldur's Gate 3 is available now for PC. The PlayStation 5 version will be available on September 6th, 2023. A version for Xbox Series X/S is still in development.
