Players will be shopping around for a cure to the parasite in Baldur's Gate 3, running into various ultra-powerful entities that make unheard-of spellcasting abilities. These elite magic-users often feel the parasite can't be removed which may lead to making a desperate decision.

Volo is a storyteller and not a reliable one at that. He will enthusiastically offer to help remove the parasite despite the failure of more-powerful beings to perform this task. Baldur's Gate 3 likely expects players to laugh off this assistance but there may actually be an upside to giving Volo a shot at it.

This article divulges consequences within the game and reveals information the player's character may not know. Gamers committed to role-playing may wish to stop reading and find these things out for themselves.

Letting Volo Remove The Parasite

Baldur's Gate 3 Volo With The Ersatz Eye
  • Highly recommended
  • Players will gain the benefit of Volo's Ersatz Eye, granting them the ability to see nearby invisible units.
  • The only downside is that the eye will look different than the eye it replaced.
  • Volo will always fail to remove the parasite.

Rescuing Volo pays off but not in an expected way. He can't, despite all his efforts, remove the parasite. However, to make up for his failure, he offers an Ersatz Eye which grants the ability to see invisible creatures. This becomes a critical piece of surviving some of the enemies later in the game.

When entering the Underdark, gamers will be glad that they have this Ersatz Eye. This is a slight downside that is purely on the roleplaying side. The party disapproves of this decision and the eye does has a distinct look. It's especially notable in certain cutscenes that zoom in on the character's face. Still, the functional benefits make this choice easy to recommend.

Baldur's Gate 3 is available now for PC. The PlayStation 5 version will be available on September 6th, 2023. A version for Xbox Series X/S is still in development.
