Tongues of Madness are reagents that can be used to craft elixirs in Baldur's Gate 3. What makes this stand out from other alchemical ingredients is that they're actually mushrooms that look like bundles of tongues, and players might find themselves locked out of an early game quest if they accidentally use these for crafting.
Getting some Tongues of Madness is fairly simple, especially once players make enough progress in BG3. If you're wondering where to get some of these for Omeluum's quest, or if you want to make that special Psionic elixir, here's where you can find some.
Baldur's Gate 3: Best Spells For A Swarmkeeper Ranger
For those looking to make the most of the Swarmkeeper Ranger subclass in Baldur's Gate 3, here are the best spells to use.
Where to Get Tongues of Madness in BG3
The earliest place where you can find Tongues of Madness is the Arcane Tower in Act 1. Specifically, you can find some in the tower's lower floors, where you can also find Timmask Spores.
To reach the basement, you need to wear the Guiding Light ring (which you can also get in the tower). Once you equip it, go back to the elevator to find a Basement button now pressable. Descend to the basement; there should be a Tongue of Madness on one of the tables there.
While you're at the Arcane Tower, make sure to check all the crates and barrels there. Some of them might contain useful stuff, including more Tongues of Madness. Some should also be on the floor below the entrance.
Alternatively, you can try visiting the following NPC vendors and see if they have Tongues of Madness for sale:
- Omeluum - Myconid Colony (after his quest)
- Derryth Bonecloak - Myconid Colony (after reaching Level 6)
- The Nurse vendor at the House of Healing in Act 2
- Popper at Rivington's Circus of the Last Days in Act 3
How to Use Tongues of Madness in BG3
As briefly mentioned earlier, Omeluum (the Mindflayer in the Myconid Colony) will ask you to get Tongue of Madness as part of a quest. This isn't the only use for this ingredient, however.
Tongues of Madness are used to craft
Tadpole Elixir, consumables that grant players Advantage and give enemies Disadvantage on multiple Saving Throws when affected by an Illithid Power. To craft these elixirs, you need some Essence and a Sublimate of Tongue of Madness, which is produced by using three Tongues of Madness.
Players can craft potions through BG3's Alchemy system. Anyone can make potions with Alchemy regardless of their class, level, and skills.
To start using Alchemy, open your character's inventory menu and select the bottle-shaped button at the upper-right of the window. From this screen, you'll be able to select the alchemical ingredients you want to mix together. If you already have them, select your Sublimate of Tongues of Madness and any Essence to craft a Tadpole Elixir.
