The Lightning Jabber is carried by the cursed Kuo-Toa chief, who ambushes the players' party along with his army of cursed Kuo-Toas. This group of Kuo-Toa can be found a short distance northeast of the Grand Mausoleum waypoint, lurking near the ruined boathouse.

The encounter can quickly become overwhelming if approached unprepared. The Kuo-Toas attack in large numbers and are capable of restraining characters by throwing nets, limiting mobility and making it challenging to control the fight. So, items like the Ring of Free Action and Freedom of Movement spells will prove useful when taking on these accursed creatures.

The Lightning Jabber has risen in prominence since the release of Patch 8 for its ability to deal both lightning and elemental damage when thrown by Giant Barbarians.

At level 6, Giant Barbarians learn the Elemental Cleaver class ability, which allows them to imbue the equipped weapon with acid, cold, fire, lightning, or thunder elements.

Notably, both lightning and cold elements deal double damage to creatures afflicted with the wet condition. While most weapons lose their innate elemental ability when enhanced with Elemental Cleaver, this isn't the case with the Lightning Jabber, which retains its 1d4 lightning damage in addition to the elemental damage acquired from Elemental Cleaver. Additionally, creatures struck by this weapon must succeed a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or become shocked, which prevents them from taking reactions.

The Lightning Jabber pairs well with the following items:

Ring of Flinging: Purchased from Arron in the Emerald Grove, the Ring of Flinging deals an additional +1d4 damage with thrown weapons.
Gloves of Uninhibited Kushigo: Rewarded by Derryth Bonecloak for rescuing her husband in the Underdark. Similar to the Ring of Flinging, the Gloves of Uninhibited Kushigo also deal bonus +1d4 damage with thrown weapons.

Additionally, pairing the Giant Barbarian with the Tavern Brawler feat adds their Strength modifier twice to attack and damage rolls, significantly increasing their attack accuracy and damage output.

Moreover, the Giant Barbarian subclass learn the Giant's Rage subclass feature, which doubles their rage damage with thrown weapons.

While the Lightning Jabber is a solid thrown weapon for Giant Barbarians in Act 2, it pales in comparison to the penultimate thrown weapon in Baldur's Gate 3— Nyrulna.
