Despite the big success of Baldur's Gate 3 almost two years ago, the franchise's future is unclear. With Larian now fully moved on from the property, there could be a long wait for Baldur's Gate 4 as Wizards of the Coast finds a new direction for the franchise. It's going to be a lofty task for any new developer to live up to the hype created by Baldur's Gate 3, so it would almost be better for the eventual developer to take its time and do things right.
