Summary
- Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 7 made Honour Mode Bulette near-unkillable.
- The Underdark boss now ignores all sub-15 damage, has 100 temporary hit points, and a devastating AoE that causes Bleed.
- One of the select few somewhat reliable ways to deal with this latest version of Bulette is to abuse its Territorial trait, which causes it to always prioritize attacking Monstrosities, which aren't hard to find in the Underdark.
Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 7 has seemingly made Bulette nearly impossible to defeat in Honour Mode, according to some recent player reports. It is dubious whether Larian will revisit this change, as the Baldur's Gate 3 developer intentionally buffed Bulette as part of the game's latest update.
Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 7 reached PC players on September 5. Among many other novelties, this release revisits the RPG's hardcore Honour Mode by making its combat even more challenging. Larian primarily achieved this by giving new Legendary Actions to over half a dozen bosses.

Honour Mode Bulette Seems Near-Unkillable After Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 7
But the developer might have gone a bit too far with Bulette, one of the bosses that can be found in the Underdark during Baldur's Gate 3 Act 1. Namely, Patch 7 provides the Honour Mode variant of this four-legged monstrosity with a new Legendary Action, Shredding Scales, and a novel condition called Diamond Scales. The former is a slashing AoE that has the potential to proc Bleed and requires a Dexterity Save of 14 to avoid, thus being fairly difficult to deal with for relatively low-level characters in Act 1. But the Diamond Scales condition is the real problem, as some players have recently noted that it makes Bulette nearly unkillable.
What the condition does is bestow 100 temporary hit points upon the boss, while also making it immune to all attacks that deal fewer than 15 damage points, making many actions available at this point in the game useless. What's more, Diamond Scales also make Bulette Grounded, meaning it is not possible to push or shove the creature off a cliff. And if that wasn't bad enough, the condition allows the boss to use Shredding Scales immediately after being hit for the first time each round.
Given how the boss can make short work of groups in tight formations, spacing everyone out is recommended before approaching it.
Seeing how Bulette was already among the hardest Baldur's Gate 3 Act 1 fights, these changes turn the creature into a massive headache, at least for players who are adamant to face it around level 5, which is where most will naturally be when they reach the Underdark. Given how the boss can make short work of groups in tight formations, spacing everyone out is recommended before approaching it. Furthermore, it is possible to abuse its Territorial trait by luring it into a fight with some of the Monstrosity-classified creatures in the Underdark, like the Beholder, which Bulette will always attack first. This strategy is particularly useful if the party is able to keep reviving Monstrosities with necromancy.
Players who find this new and improved version of Bulette too much to handle but don't want to avoid it altogether can either postpone fighting it or roll back its latest buffs. The latter is fairly straightforward to do, as Larian has recently offered players a simple way to stay on Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 6 or downgrade from Patch 7.
