Larian Studios reveals new statistics for Baldur's Gate 3 based on player behaviors, choices, and surprising numbers related to overall play time. After a lengthy period in Early Access, Baldur's Gate 3 finally launched in full earlier this year to rave reviews and immense popularity from players. In fact, following its official PC launch, Baldur's Gate 3 quickly became the highest rated PC game of all time on Metacritic just days after release and with a constant stream of hot fixes, larger updates, and impeding release on Xbox, the game doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon.

That success has also extended to the 2023 Game Awards event, where Baldur's Gate 3 is not only one of the top 5 nominees for the Player's Choice category, but the game is also in the discussion for Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, and a bunch of other categories. Replayability is a major component of Baldur's Gate 3 thanks to its branching narrative, major choices, and overall flexible playstyle based on a variety of different components like the player's subclass. The game's overall popularity has led to some surprising data and stats, which Larian Studios has finally shared with the community.

How Baldur's Gate 3's New Epilogues Wrap Up Each Companion's Story

Larian Studios recently released Patch 5 for Baldur's Gate 3, and it includes new content and an epilogue that helps wrap up each companion's story.

Baldur's Gate 3 Playtime Numbers

In a new post on social media, Larian Studios revealed tons of new data, stats, and other player choices broken down by numbers. In terms of average playtime, 1.3 million players have completed the game so far, with 94% of all players using a custom-made character. The data also shows that Baldur's Gate 3' s Half-Elf Cleric known as Shadowheart is the most romanced character, with over 51% of players making it to the final act of her romance arc. In terms of subclasses, the Berserker Barbarian is the most popular, followed by the College of Lore Bard and Tempest Domain Cleric. Finally, the total overall playtime for all players combined is 452,556,984 hours, or the equivalent of 51,662 years.

Surprising Baldur's Gate 3 Player Choices

However, Larian also provided fans with some outlandish data alongside the more insightful numbers, such as an insane 8,196 years spent inside the character creator. For example, 14.4 million characters have been disintegrated into a pile of dust, while 1.2 million were compelled to dance against their will. About 1.24 million Baldur's Gate 3 players clearly angered a certain djinn during the Act 3 circus and ended up turning into a sentient wheel of cheese. For those who want to demonstrate their power, 30% of players also fully gave into their illithid side by Act 2.

The game's Honour Mode was also highlighted, represented as the "ultimate" challenge in Baldur's Gate 3. While certainly not meant for all players, some have taken the challenge, including a speedrunner known as Chronos. Faced with the entire run coming to an end should the party fully wipe, Chronos managed to finish Baldur's Gate 3 in Honour Mode in an astonishingly fast time of 38 minutes and 8 seconds. At this time, the time is currently set as the World's Fastest, but it's highly likely that another runner will certainly attempt to challenge and overtake it.
